I love seeing new people here in ETTB after my starting this some, what, two years ago? It's been fun, seeing all of us here in east Tennessee meeting here and doing what we do.

Update: I just checked the date I started the original ETTB thread, and it was Jan. 25, 2011. So yes, we've been doing this over two years, and I have to say, all of the guys here in east Tennessee have made this a great experience, as I expected it would be! Let's keep this going for a long time..

Been reading through the posts about Genz Benz amps. I have a Shuttle 12 that I dig very much. After reading through various other threads about the GB gain structure and such, I can see why some find it bewildering. I had to do some experimenting to find what I liked as well, not necessarily with EQ but with gain structure. I just run the thing flat across the board and rely on pickup selection and the right hand from there. Used to have a GK 800RB that was and aforementioned "idiot proof" amp. Ran it flat as well, but the gain structure was also very different.

Gear in general...I have a Fender American Jazz 4-banger that I've heavily modified over the years...new neck (original sucked), EMG's, HipShot, pickup cover, etc. My main bass is a Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 my beloved gave me for Christmas several years ago. Black 'n maple, tort guard, beautiful. Replaced the electronics it with an Audere JZ something or other...3, I think. Really brought the thing to life. The stock controls were a bit anemic for me. Also have a Modulus fretless 5, black with tapewounds. Lots of mwah, usually ran with a wide chorus and tight slapback delay.

All of those run through a Line 6 Bass Pod XT Live. Nice box. Then the Genz Benz to an Ampeg 410, the "e"/classic/whatever they're calling it. Kinda consider it the weak link in the chain (second to the player). Would like to have a ported 410 like the HLF for a bit more low end. But no complaints, I'm abundantly blessed to have what I have. Amen? ;)

ALIEN LOVE CHARM is looking for a 2nd guitarist/lead singer. Established local band, genre mainly blues-rock in the Stevie Ray Vaughan/Jimi Hendrix vein though we have a wide range of material. Presently a trio, looking to expand our range. We have dates at 5 different Knoxville-area clubs pending now. Averaging 2-3 live gigs a month over the past couple of years and steady rehearsals in South Knoxville 2-3 days a week – usually 2 weeknights plus every Sunday. What we are looking for: excellent singer capable of lead singing on a variety of material, good guitar playing skills. Singing more important than your guitar playing. Showing up on time to all rehearsals and gigs, no excuses. Not timid. Not a hard partyer. Good equipment. Desire to play – we are far more concerned with sounding great than earning $$. East Tennesse is the most unique market that I have ever played. Every other place that I have lived, bass players were as rare as hen's teeth. Further, I remember audition days where guitar players were stacked up like chord wood.

Here, it seems that everyone is a bass player! This group doesn't come close to scratching the surface.

It took us 6 months to find a guitar player that was a good fit. No ego, no 420 exercises at rehearsal, understands the importance of space and dynamics, and clearly understands that the amp voloume turns in both directions. And it's not like we're playing tough music or some obscure genre.

Good luck with your search, BWB. Bring a sleeping bag, a copy of War & Peace, and a sack lunch. :D

We actually know several people that would be a good fit for our band ... and they're all in multiple bands. Seems to be a common problem, the people who can really play have tons of gigs available. Go figure.

I posted it here and all over Facebook - if you think of anyone, drop me a line. I'm going to put the ad (reluctantly) on craigslist although I can already predict what the response is going to be like :rolleyes:

I myself decided about 5 years ago I was going to be only in 1 band, only play 2 gigs a month, yadda yadda and of course I did fill-in gigs with the Dirty Dougs all through 2012 (they finally came up with a permanent bass player last fall) and am now playing bass for Jay McDaniel also, at least for the moment. Jay seems hell bent on the torrid pace of 1 gig a month :) and at that rate I may just stick it out with her although I have 'interim' stamped on my hand at the moment :)

I moved to Knoxville from Atlanta in 1995 -

When I arrived in Atlanta in the early 1990's, I put an ad in Creative Loafing that said something like ex-touring pro, new to Atlanta, seeks kickass band, good equipment, reliable and I got so many phone calls within a week that I told my roommate "anyone else who calls, tell them I have a band". I put together a 7 piece band from that ad that went on to play a mazillion gigs in Atlanta in 1994/95.

Arrive Knoxville, put ad in the Metro Pulse .... crickets. Every once in a while I would get a call ... after about 6 months, mid-1996 or so, I got a call from a guitar player that led to a band that led to many gigs ... that led to us 17 years later playing in Alien Love Charm together :) this is the 3rd band the two of us have been in with each other.

There are no lack of bass players in Knoxville, it seems. :) but it sure was weird getting here and it took a really long time to get something going ...

The short anwer is, it depends on what you're selling.

Economy gear seems to do best.

I have sold a couple of things and traded a couple of things. In most cases, it was something unusual or something that I didnt want to ship.

95% of CL stuff is overpriced junk. Maybe twice a year I grab something off of it.

It's free so you can give a whirl and see how it works for you.

And watch out for for the people that want to Paypal you and use THEIR FedEx account to pick up the piece. Big rip offs.

Tell them you accept Western Union or FTF only and they go away.

Hey guys; I have a TC Electronics RS 2x12 8 ohm bass cab and a Dean Hillsboro bass (bass is practically new). I would love to do something local so I would not have to ship them. If any of you guys are interested, just PM me; would trade or sell either way right now. Looking for a decent backup bass (prefer a 5 string right now but would also look at 4's).
I will probably post them on here next week if no interest locally, but I hate shipping cabs!!

How about taking them to the GTG next weekend? Might draw a prospect, good place to demo, etc. etc. Be sure to post it if you plan to do it, maybe put it in the TB classified with a reference to the GTG demo opportunity. Just a thought...

Thanks Idervish!!! I actually had planned that already; I had commited to coming (hope I still can), but something has come up and I may not be able to make it. Gonna see what I can do...
