Hey guys, I have two old WT-800s that are from the good ole days of Eden (mid '90s) and I use them for my 2 rig setup powering two 3-way cabs. Anyways, one of them started making noise recently (loud scratchy noise sorta like a instrument cable shorting out sound). The sound is accompanied by the front panel lights flickering. I've eliminated cables, cabs, power supply, power cord, etc etc... replaced the tube also. The noise starts after the amp gets up to temp, about 10 minutes after I start playing thru it.
So.... any idea who I can trust to work on this amp locally? I can't replace these amps... Eden doesn't make them this way anymore. These are capable of 880watts mono at 8 ohms which is exactly what I need for the PA cabs I play thru (my cheap cab alternative that I stumbled upon).
JJ, the guy that Murlin's uses here in Maryville did a great job on my SVT and an old Shure PA tube head I had laying around. His name escapes me, but I'm sure I kept his info, let me know if I need to dig it up.
For what it's worth, he's pricey but honest. He didn't try to upsell me on replacing all the tubes in the SVT (a common practice with some amp techs, they collect the good ones and resell). He recommended replacing the bad one, and even returned it in the amp case.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow, I will probably be late, and will have to leave early, but I have every intention of making the 3rd semi-annual ETTBGTG! MoTown style!

My biggest complaint was when I called and asked if they had looked at it yet (after a couple of weeks) they didn't know what I was talking about!! Basically the left hand not knowing what the right hand does. They FINALLY found the amp, then sent it to get it worked on. Took more than a month to get it looked at. I think they have JD from Recycled Sound do their work. He is good; he has fixed Ampeg heads and a Mesa Head for me before. Great guy and knows his stuff. I would prefer to take it to him in Greeneville if he is still there, instead of going thru Rik's.

The guy at Rik's implied it would be fixed in-house. If not, I'll definitely consider driving further and/or at least calling the other people you guys have recommended.
I think it's a simple fix or at least a simple diagnosis... I'll let you guys know what I find out.

There is a more or less chronic problem with earlier WT-800's, including in one I had, involving a couple power resistors that can't get rid of the heat they generate. Eventually it crystalizes the solder where it is connected and the amp cuts out or bangs or does other crazy stuff because the connection has become flaky or non-existent. It was so common there are quite a few threads around the internet about it. Later designs corrected the problem. If that is your trouble it is an easy fix and they should have you up and running in no time.
Congrats to iamoldschool for hosting the ET TB GTG today! I was late and had to leave early, but it was awesome fun! Great idea for a GTG, have a fantastic guitarist and drummer and PA set up with rotating bass players!

If you missed it, chalk it up to the loss column! Those of us that attended; PDGood, ldervish, Rollerberg2000, DoubleBassMan and myself, enjoyed a day of jamming with Blues Guitarist Billy Crawford, not to mention sandwiches, drinks, chips and cookies! Maybe next time, but for now, enjoy.

Thanks for the kind words, Jeff. I suppose it just turned out to be rotten timing for most of our group. Either that, or they just don't like Motown.
At any rate, I had a blast but this old man is beat. I'm getting too old to set up PA and drag all the bass gear around too! A special shout out to Lost Creek Shakers drummer, Shane Hart (DoubleBassMan on TB) for all of his help today. I literally could NOT have done it without him. He's a passable drummer, too. Had some help from my wife and daughter, as well, but they get paid for their efforts, one way or the other.
I appreciate it none the less. A huge Thank You to Billy Crawford. He made the event special despite the light turnout. There were times when we had Billy playing with a drummer and two bassists. Heck, PDGood could make rhythm guitarists obsolete with his 5'er strung E-C. Wish everyone could have been there!
I'll tip my hat and echo the thanks to Iamoldschool for taking the time and trouble to put this together. Everything was there, except for more TBers. It was fun seeing all the cool gear and playing some of it, not to mention meeting a few new friends & listening to some great blues (with a lot of bottom). Muchas gracias

I wound up going to the Hendrix Blues Cruise today with ms. T as projected. She works with the non-profit who received the funds from today's benefit, and had asked me to go along.
Unfortunately, the Star of Knoxville was berth-bound. One of the engines went out last night on the evening's outing- so there was no cruise today. But the bands went on as planned.
I must say that Scott (BWB) is an amazing bass player, and Alien Love Charm was the highlight of the day. ALC was the only band of the three that was rehearsed- the other two were sort of commingled and jammed- the result was kind of uneven.
I highly recommend ALC! Scott and Brian are simply terrific musicians, who've been playing 15 years together. I got to talk with Scott for a few before the thing kicked off at 3. Thanks, Scott! I enjoyed meeting you and hearing you play today. Your right hand technique is amazing. Scott played fingerstyle, and was doing a lot of fast right hand work, which was something else to see.
I wish I'd been able to do both the event today and the GTG, but given today's venue for the GTG was an hour or so from my place, it wasn't possible. If I'd known ahead of time that the boat was not going anywhere, I could have! Sigh..
Richard, I wish you'd had a better turnout! But I was glad to hear that Jeff and Larry both made it there. So if there were six of you there, did everyone eat a foot of sub?

Scott mentioned that he thought that Boyd's Jig and Reel in the Old City in Knoxville, might be a good venue for the next ETTB GTG. We talked briefly about that, I'll leave it there.

Richard, I am so sorry I had to bug out early, I really did have a honey do project that I'm just now wrapping up. I would have stayed behind to help schlep gear, but when my wonderful wife and enabler wants something done, I try to get right on it. (You do remember I'm trying to get some scratch from the house hold fund for a double bass right?)
Fantastic job pulling it together, those in attendence had a great time. If we pull another one off in Maryville, I would like to do something similar with the band idea, I'll get the keys to the PA room and have it ready to rock if we want to. Maybe late summer or so.
