My '92 Ric was perfection... miss it! I won't get another one unless its white. They're so hard to adjust to (string spacing, neck dimensions, scale length, pickup route, crazy bridge) that I'll be picky about normally minor details like color, next time I buy one. I've had 3 now.
Met him a few times. Fantastic guy! My band and I once had the opportunity to open for the Guvs in Charlotte, NC. At the end of the night, there were a few drunk ladies trying to go after Justin. He was making fun of them right to them, but they were far to drunk to notice. It was hilarious! But that is what you get when you mess with a married man!
Looks like my main band might be splitting ways soon as my drummer got offered a gig with the Black Lilies (https://www.facebook.com/theblacklillies?fref=ts) and will be joining them on the road for at least three months (and potentially longer). As such, I'm in the market for a new gig!
I'm not too genre specific and am willing to do anything from classic rock, to folk/bluegrass, to hip hop/RnB, to funky jammy type stuff, to country, and everything in between. If anyone has any leads on a band needing a bassist/backing vocalist please feel free to shoot me a PM

Get a new drummer! Look into a guy named Colton McCoy. He lives in Knoxville, but I think he might be playing with the Bad Dudes. I don't know how busy that keeps him though.
I picked up an Ibanez ABG200 on eBay this week. Will post pics when it arrives, and first impressions.

Ordered a soulmate for the Super J5 yesterday. Dingwall Super P5, but going with reversed pick ups. Identical string spacing and neck profile.
Approximate time to completion? 11/8/13. The remainder of 2013 is going to drag horribly.

They have never even come up on my radar in terms of causing in change in my technique. The only time that I even notice is when I am doing quick 1-4 or 2-5 fret changes and pay attention to ensure that I am not clamming it up on the 1 or 2 by riding the frets like a cheap tricycle.
Both of these basses are 35 inch scale @ low B, similar to many Lakland models. I have never played the big beasts aka Sklar, Prima etc so I can't comment on those.
They are amazing basses though. Once I get the Super P, I can handle anything with them and pack up the Fender 63 NAV P. Not that I don't love the 63 NAV.
I've had 2 Afterburners, a 5 and a 6 string. I didn't mind the 37" B, in fact I think the string lengths are perfect. It was my plucking hand that likes to hang out too close to the slanted bridge that gave me problems.
Ah ! Every once in a while I nick the bridge pick up on the Super J when I am getting froggy on the G. If I am riding the bridge for tone, I can run out distance between the plucking spot and bridge, but it is extremely rare.
I guess it just depends on each player's technique and playing ergonomics.
I have never seriously considered a Sklar model as I tend to pluck deep. With all those pick ups bunched up in my personal sweet spot, I would freak out every time I touch the top of a pickup.

I always tend to pluck near where the bridge J pup would be located, no matter what bass it is. And that puts my fingers too close to the G and/or C string saddles on a Dingwall.

Man, I love that Marty Bell painted bass. I sold the Statatory Grap Jazz. Letting that go about killed me. Had to make some ugly decisions in order to ease up on the (not so) disposable income. I will definity find another project to send off to Marty at some point.
I take it you pluck shallow? You're welcome to take the Super J for a spin any time should be up this way or I am over in your neck of the woods. Next public gig is in JC June 7th & 8th as I recall. Whew. Been a while since I have played out. Hopefully I won't take a header off the stage. It should be hacktacular !
Zoomie, it's not a "Sklar" but I have a 2000 model Z2 with Barts you are welcome to take for a spin to see if you like the longer scale. The neck is identical (or close enough IMO) to the Z3 and the Prima Artist.
I knew it wasn't a Sklar. That's what I get for trying to answer the phone and type at the same time.
I am not sure I want to touch it. I am all but convinced that with these two basses, I am covered. To fondle any of the Z series would just put my checkbook right back in ICU ! And back at ya on anything that I have.
I have managed to miss every single GTG that we have had. The last one was attributed to an extended-family death. Really wanting to drag stuff out and let people play with it as there are so few stores to actually see or try out gear.
And as for we East Tenneseeans being "bumpkins" there sure is a ton of quality gear around being hoarded and or gigged.
Lol! The amount, diversity and quality of bass gear at our local GTG's would make any GC green with envy!
