I've been in K town for about 2 months now and I've come to a few conclusions.......
No one uses their turn signals in the South. I don't know if you guys all got together one day and decided that or not. But I can count on my hand the amount of times that I've seen someone use them.
No one knows how to make a decent sub or Pizza. It's a strange thing. Where I came from in PA, you could throw a rock in any direction and hit a decent pizza shop. I've been to 5 or 6 different pizza shops and not one makes their own breads. Maybe we had more Italians in the North or something. It's just weird to me. I mean I've seen fried spaghetti on more than one menu down here. I don't know what that is but I can only imagine that it tastes like hot garbage.
On the flip side of that, you guys know how to make BBQ. Two of best places that I've found are Calhoun's and Dead End. If you guys can point me in the direction of any other places that I should check out let me know.

Not really a connoisseur of pizza, but try some of the Italian restaurants. I think Carabas makes there own bread. If not, at least their Chicken Bryan and Sirloin Marsala will keep your taste buds singing.

There is no question that pizza and Philly cheese steak are "generally" better up north, although there are exceptions - you just have to find the spots. And yes, the north was settled by Italians whereas the south was Scotch - Irish. Not sure why we don't have haggis. Haha. However, we are rich in roots music as a result of the Scotch/Irish influence.
In regards to turn signals - southern cities vary the same as northern ones do. In Atlanta at least four cars are likely to run through a light after it's turned red. In Nashville maybe one. In Nashville no one ever uses their horn. In Atlanta everyone does all the time.
In the last 10 years in the south people (not just women) have become huge. And yes, I'd agree that it does seem to have very little middle ground, but it's not just the gals. As little as five years ago you never saw motorized carts in the grocery store except for a few disabled people. Now you have people so big they cannot walk - and that's becoming accepted culture.
But part of the beauty of this country is that each can go their own way. Even when it seems wrong for us, it may be right for someone else. One man's floor is another man's ceiling.

If by "sub" you mean Philly cheesesteak, then we don't have 'em here. Wish we did. Have you tried Sam and Andys (pronounced samnandys) in Farragut? The best deli around here since dirt.
There's a hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant on Sutherland Avenue called "Savelli's." Their food is quite good. Don't know if they do pizza. Have you tried the Pizza Palace on Magnolia Avenue in East Knoxville? They were on Diners, Driveins, and Dives.

The gym that I go to has some good looking girls as well. But they are by far the exception. I'm sure that once college is in full swing it will be a totally different story.
It seems like most of the places here are chain restaurants, like Carabas. I try to avoid them whenever possible.
Cheese steaks are a type of sub. It's funny, I knew that I was in trouble when I first ordered a cheese steak and they asked if I wanted A1 or ketchup on it. When I told them sauce they looked at me confused and said....."Spaghetti sauce?"
I live in West Knox so I've mostly gone to places over here. I'll check out the places that you mentioned though
Savelli's is good, as is Altruda's on North Peters. I wasn't impressed with Pizza Palace.
Yeah Carabas may be a chain restaurant but it has some of my favorite dishes and I go to family-ran Italian restaurants frequently.
Pizza Palace is actually my favorite in this town. It's a good thing I live out west, or I'd be a lot heavier. Big Ed's in Oak Ridge is not bad, if you don't mind driving a dozen miles.
Yeah... this would be me. But I love spicy food, it's just my gut doesn't.
