Eastwood shortscale basses... quality?

Don't know but being a hollow body and short scale it can't weigh much. I think I need to get one of these myself!

Our guitarist has an Airline that he's had a lot of trouble with. I'm tempted by the Club Bass, but feel there are other, perhaps better choices in that price range.

And that's list. The in-cart online price is $499. Pretty attractive alternative to a $2K-3K Gretsch. I have a local Eastwood dealer. Yee-haw.

Instrument Alley is running a deal right now -- ordered mine for $449 + $89 for the hard shell case, minus another $20 from their holiday coupon. With free shipping it was just under $520 total.

Well my review is going to have to wait until February. Instrument Alley emailed me and they (like everyone else it seems) are out of stock for the Classic 4 and won't be getting a new shipment until then. So stay tuned ....

Definitely I agree, that's my point. In my earlier post, I inadvertently worded it kind of snotty-like. I didn't intend to imply that they're a cheap/cheesy instrument not worth the selling price, actually I suspect that they're pretty good quality-wise. What I mean is that from a resale value, I can't see spending $500 on something that I may or may not like and having to resell it at a much lower price. A Sting bass like bluewine mentions is easily resellable should you not like it, etc.
Not dissing Eastwood, I'm just saying that if you don't like it and want to resell, you're going to take a bigger hit than you would with a lower end Fender, Squire or a Turser which is cheaper right from the get-go

These kind of fall into the same category as Waterstone's stuff I suspect.
I do have to admit though, I am tempted....very tempted...

Yes, VERY tempting! Since there is an Eastwood dealer here in town I've seen a number of Eastwood guitars and basses up close and personal. If you are in love, they are worth it. But truth is they are basically "novelty" instruments. And in my humble opinion are prices about 20%-30% higher than I'd want to go for a novelty instrument. My "novelty" instruments are usually some "junk" I picked up in the $100-200 range and restored to my liking. And for me personally I'm pretty much shut down by the fact that Eastwood doesn't make any "real" basses. [all "real" basses have 5 or more strings]

But still, for the look and the "novelty" of them very very tempting.

Well, McCartney, Entwistle, and Chris Squire played and play REAL basses and they are 4 string basses!! I like my Eastwood Club bass, it is a keeper. I have gigged with it many times, bassplayers always compliment me on that bass, as well as my Hofner Icon and Waterstone Indra. Once, when I played my pink Indra, before we started a muso sneered and said "What's THAT?" After a set, he came up and complimented me on how great the bass sounded.

The player makes the bass, not the other way around, IMO.

I have an Eastwood Hi-Flyer 4 string which is a shortscale . I bought it as " B" stock from Eastwood . Needed fret work . Sent it to my local shop to get it fixed and set up . Darn thing plays great . Not sure what to think of the pickups though . Hot like humbuckers but where they're located I tend to hit them with my pic at times ( when I play with a pic ) and get that tap sound . They're not exactly telephonic though . However the thing plays and sounds great . Heavy which I like in a bass. All I can say is my experience ( after the fix and set up ) have been great . It's just a solid , sturdy good sounding bass . In fact I liked the Hi-Flyer so much I got stop-tail 6 string in white . In fact my next bass might be an EEB. But for some reason I think I'll be modding the crap out of that one .

I really dig them .

I like what they stand for -- making cool (and odd) old guitars and basses available again, but better than the originals. Fun stuff, I'm looking forward to buying a few from them at some point.
