Eat Your Wheaties, and Stand While You Practice

For double bass can we just add violin and cello together?

No a double bass is TWO cellos. The original name for the cello in france after it evolved from violon (little big violin in italian) and the viol de gamba, was bassette. Little bass. One of the explanations I've heard for calling the really big bass (developed in Beethoven's time IIRC) a "double" bass was that it was 2x as big as a 'cello. The other is that it doubled the bass part in SATB four part compositions.

I just meant the calories on the chart but cool, I did not know that.
Obviously whoever put that chart together hasn't seen the bassist from Reg Kehoe and his Marimba Queens:

Love that video.
I play just like that guy!
But, without the rhythm and intonation.:D

I almost always (99.5%) play standing anyway. Sitting is just not comfortable for me while trying to play, maybe it's because I'm a big fat guy, I don't know. Plus, (and I could be wrong); as a relatively newish player, it makes more sense (to me) to practice in the position I would be using said skill-set ie, standing up, in front of people.

Woodshed I sit. Rehearsals I stand, 3 to 4 hours. Even with a 5501 the neck and shoulder get tired. Bass is in pretty close same location either way (per Billy Sheehan) that's why he plays with his so high. It's always the same height sitting or standing.

This may explain some goofy people are usually skinny

It does keep you in shape.
Here's some FitBit info from a 2 gigs in one day event(charity gig in Houston 11-2 and then one in College Station from 7-11) taken at 2:48 AM after I got home and unloaded.

19,548 steps
62 bpm resting
8.45 miles
4,962 calories burned
4 floors
404 active minutes
16:45 walk 138 cals 116 avg bpm

At 60 years old, it beats sitting on the sofa getting larger and softer.

"The double-bass is a monster and playing it is a labour fit for a horse" as someone supposedly wrote in a book in 1713.

And, well... I guess it does take a lot of movement.

Play rockabilly slap bass for two or three hours and you will be tired, no matter how fit you are. Drums and upright bass both get me all lathered up after playing for a while. Who needs a gym when you can make noise?
