eBay Auction for "'53 Fender"?

Is this for real? The paint job looks pretty crappy to me, and bad refin if I'm guessing correctly. Also, I've never seen this model of Fender before. I have my doubts.

IMO, it IS a genuine 1953 P bass (refinned and modified).

I wouldnt pay $500 for that bass..Its ugly as hell for one thing. And IMO if its refinished its not vintage...

This bass was up for auction before and has been discussed. I think the consensus was real '53 with some real bad mods. If there aren't horrendous routs under that PG and it was a couple thousand less, it might be a good candidate for restoration. That looks like an early '60s white tolex Fender case that comes with it.

i think that it's easily worth $2K. restored it could be beautiful again. the finish is obviously not original, but the bass certainly is.
