Ebay Restricted item?

So I sold a bass on ebay and then I got this message ...

search words - CITES Global shipping program rosewood

Is that a rosewood fretboard?

I shipped it to a PO box in Kentucky where it would have probably get reshipped overseas ...

I have sold Rickenbacker parts before that went there several times..

So what happened ...

Was it going to a country with embargos?

Welcome the the World of CITES. Is the PO Box a shipping depot that ebay uses to ship out of the country, or is that the shipping address of the buyer? If the latter, I would think you have a legit argument to dispute this. If the former, then you are SOOL.

The fact that the word Rosewood was used in your ad triggered the Gestapo. If you said the fingerboard was Chechen the bass would be on its way to the buyer.

I am not out any money and the buyer is not out any money ... but damn ... I put a lot of work and a lot of love into that bass ... will it just end up in a warehouse somewhere and never get played?

The bass will b e returned to you by ebay, it will not stay in their possession. At least, that is what I have read in similar cases as this.

I used to collect antique kerosene lanterns. There were people that would sell them and ship them over seas. I distinctly recall something of this nature happening a few times, and it worked out to be a scam. Someone involved with ebay was confiscating the items that were being shipped and re selling them. I hope this isn't the case here.

Well both the buyer and seller are covered here ... but where is this really nice bass going to end up ...

I guess I will have to have some conversations with ebay ...

There are several countries that sellers in the usa cannot ship to ... perhaps he is in one of those and was using the Global Shipping Center to get around that ???

Certainly contact Ebay ASAP. It could be a CITES issue and Ebay is eating it, or that could be a phony message, and someone is gonna re-sell your bass and screw the buyer (which could lead YOU to getting screwed).

If this is how it works ebay has quite the scam going. If the item can'y be shipped out why doesn't ebay just return the item to the seller?
