Someone just got scammed by Erik Guitars on this fake '64 Jazz Bass:

Reissue neck that someone put a fake stamp on and no telling what else is not real.

Looks like you're right about some of it. Head decals are not even correct for the time period. No holes for the PU cover. Lots of filled holes near the bridge but no holes for the "ashtray" bridge cover. Suspicious.

Educate me. How did you know it was a fake? What exactly was the key to you seeing that the neck was a reissue?

I really want to know so that I would never be taken.

The immediate giveaway was the slab board neck. Fender did not make slab boards in '64. Also, late '64's had pearl dot markers and this neck has the fake clay dots.

That bass looks like someone did a heavy handed "relic" job...lucky there are educated guys on this site that can help tell you if you really spend money on a vintage bass.

The tuners, which have been horribly reliced, are another giveaway: they are modern, high gear ratio tuners:

The fingerboard, as already noted, is a slab, it should actually be a veneer.

But the biggest giveaway is the horrible, amateurish relicing.

Yep, the relicing just looks...overdone. It really looks like he (or someone did, anyway) gathered some period hardware and assembled it on a relic'ed bass.

Pretty much the conclusion that I have come too. I look at them but I really do not know enough to decide whether or not it is real. So my money stays in my pocket.
