EBMM Question

I believe the new Darkray now has an added effect slips my mind but should find info on website

Darkay also uses Darkglass preamp which does sound somewhat different than Special when playing clean but still excellent

And yes consider their Custom Design Experience a multitude of Asthetic options to get what works for you or if going Darkray need to find one that is acceptable to you in looks dept.

PS: Ladylovestingray5 knows from where she speaks post#17

I almost splurged and bought one. Love the look, quality and sound... Everything about that bass is top tier.

Then there's that $%@&ing G string issue. I should not have to "adapt" to a $3,000 bass. It should be perfect. I bought a Sandberg instead. I never had that issue with any other bass in that price range, and it seems to be just the Specials. If a deal came up on and older one I might consider it.

I would personally choose an older StingRay5 because the newer ones require not one, but TWO 9 volt batteries. The other thing to look out for is a weak G string compared to the other strings. Nearly all my StingRays had this issue. I’ve played some that don’t have this issue so I’d make sure the “try before you buy”

I believe people have been complaining about the G string issue long before the Special arrived. That's just how they make the StingRay 5. Seems like kind of a take it or leave it situation from EBMM's standpoint.

It’s no different than people buying $3K + Chinese Dingwalls and having to adjust to fan frets and or extended scale / multi scale. If you want what that bass offers, you adjust. Every bass that isn’t the same exact specs takes adjusting. Whether or not you want to or can adjust is an individual situation.

Exactly !! If it’s not a weak G it’s the G is too close.

I had hoped for better reviews. I thought these instruments to be top notch.

Honestly, after much reconsideration I have decided to stick with my Fenders, G&Ls and MTD.

Personally, I was never a fan of the design to begin with.

I'll be fine.

If you change your mind, and you may after trying a Ray, consider buying used. That is the route I took.

I saved some money and ended up with almost new instruments.

As long as the cash stays with you have options.

Ebmm basses are great. I have had 8-9 over the years. The build quilt is great and they sound and play amazingly. The dark ray is cool but honestly I think it’s a gimmick unless u play metal bass and need distortion.
You can dial up any amount of saturations you want. It does not have to be Buzz saw or nothing. I get a beautiful slightly over driven tube tone out of mine very easily

I have older SR5 (1990) and the only time I had an issue with G string slipping off is when I put really light gauge strings on it, lightest Rotosound Swing Bass. I put them on my Ray5 HH and don't have a problem with that bass.
I have an older one too and never had a problem with her G string slipping off

Who bought the Gold 50th Stingray today ? They sold 43 out of the 50 already. Still 7 left, if you hurry you can still get one

Actually, all of the 5-string Stingrays of all time periods have the narrow necks with G strings being close to the edge. No different from the Specials.

You must be quite special (sorry). I’ve had to adapt to every damn bass I’ve ever owned over something. I dud adapt, no problem.

Because I wanted to play the things.

I mean I can give you 10 reasons why I don't like p basses, g&L's, or really any other instrument. If you don't like the design to begin with really, then you definitely shouldn't bother. Or you should ask the stingray group, where there are literally hundreds of people who play them every single day without complaint. I think you were given some very good reviews outside of the random people who show up every time in every single thread to talk about how much they don't like something as opposed to the much smaller minority who are less interested in bragging about what they do. Oh that's just my opinion :-)

And it’s been my observation that a lot of those that have to ask what’s good about Stingrays won’t understand the answer.

Let ‘em be. Their loss.

Exactly. As fine of a bass as it is, I decided to leave it. IMO, and I stand by it, a $3000 bass should be perfect for the user. I shouldn't have to adapt to anything. My Sandberg has MM style pick ups, a Dark Glass pre-amp, plays like a dream, sounds incredible and was $800 less. It works a lot better for me.

That said, if I found a Stingray5 that I didn't have to "adapt" to, I'd probably buy it.

Did you mean perfect for you?🙂

Since EBMM have sold a boatload and most likely everyone they can build and Players love them both Pro's and Joe's/Jane's

Many philosophers quote in one way or another "The meaning of Life is Adaptation "🙂
