Lo-Riders have been my favorite strings for years, and this video confirms my choice. To me the they are noticeably fuller and richer in the lower strings.

I like the colbalts too. a balanced sound to my ears... a little more treble but not harsh... that's why the specials are called specials
My ears aren't good enough, they sound very similar! I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in a blind test.

Yeah, I saw that and I really want one but I just got a BFR Special last week:

The dropped copper is very nice finish too. It's probably my favourite reddish finish that I have seen as I am not a big fan of most bright red finishes like candy apple.
Finally got the new pickguard in from Chandler. It fits *almost* perfectly. Next string change I’m going to sand a little around the neck and pickup cutouts. That should give it just enough wiggle room to sit perfectly. Surprising considering these are supposedly OEM for EMBB.
It’s “color 230” which is Retro Red Tortoise. not the nicest tort I’ve ever seen, but it’s not a cheap printed tort either. I’m going to get a black pearl as soon as they’re back in stock and I’ll see which one I like best.
Unrelated question: how is the output level on everyone’s special? I expected it to be hot since it’s active, but it has about the same level as my passive fender p with GZRs. Just wondering if that was normal for these.

If I set all the EQ knobs to noon, I find the output about what I would expect from any active set of pickups. But dialing the EQ up, the pickups get down-right "melt your face off" hot. So much range and so many different sounds. I love my SRS so much....
Oh a completely different "tone improving" upgrade note. I ordered a black sparkle pick guard from pickguards.com for my SRS. I'll post picks as soon as it gets here.
i'm quite jealous of that BFR in the middle. If I didn't just get a different BFR a few weeks ago, I would be all over 1 of those.
