EBMM StingRay Special Club

I’ve considered buying one of these, but I have hesitated because I really like the sound of my ash-bodied 2001 EBMM StingRay 5H but the Specials I have tried sound substantially different—not any “less good,” just different—than what I feel I need.

Are others perceiving a major difference in sound with these because of the lighter bodies, revisions to the electronics, lighter hardware, the roasted maple necks, etc.? I know the major aim of the redesign was to reduce the overall weight and in that EBMM has certainly succeeded.

The addition of stainless steel frets and the more rounded heel are nice touches, too.
I think you've answered your own question. It's a completely redesigned bass and just as different as any other changes made through the years. :bookworm:
I had a 2005 H fiver that I called the 'big green monster' because it weighed about 12 lbs. with a ceramic pickup. It sounded different than the basses that came before and after it.
If you love your 2001, that's fantastic! You did better than me, my friend.
But if you want to drink the new 'improved' Kool-Aid, it's here. 'Oh! Yeah!' :D

I hear ya, I've got 3 young kids too and am not working as much and I can say I am more tired than ever trying to keep up with them. That pic you posted was just a tease though, we need to see much more.
The first charging green SRS5 in Australia...

Very nice, that charger green looks a lot different in that pic than it does in other pictures. I've haven't seen one in person so its really hard to judge how they look in person. Looks good regardless.
My wife works in an essential service, so gets to leave the house. Being a stay-at-home dad is hard work. I've never been more tired, and have less time than ever for my hobbies. But overall it's a wonderful experience, and invaluable bonding time with my kids.

My smartphone photography skills don't do justice to the beautiful finish. EBMM have absolutely nailed it with these Specials.

Has anyone seen or heard of a Ghostwood SR Special with an ebony fb? I saw one for sale online and it even has a picture but from what I can tell on the EBMM website it is only available with the roasted maple fb. Here's the link: Ernie Ball Music Man - StingRay Special HH Bass, Ebony Fingerboard w/ Case - Ghostwood

Here's a pic:

Do you think this could be an error or might it be a real thing? I like the ghostwood colour and prefer the ebony fb so I might grab one but its available online only.

Sometime recently (over the past 8-12 months), someone on the page... maybe in this forum... posted a shot or two of an orange-stained Stingray with heavy grain in the body and possibly with a tort guard. Believe it was a 4... maybe it was a 5... but the instrument was stunning... just a gorgeous body. Anyone remember this one? If someone has that pic, I'd love to see it again. Thanks, folks!

Just ordered a “retro red tort” pickguard from Chandler for my black 5 H. I’ll take pics once it gets here. FYI they are out of black pearl until September or October.

Has anyone given their neck the Murphy Oil soap / tru-oil / gunstock wax spa treatment yet? I’ve got all the stuff and I’m thinking about doing it next string change.
