EBMM StingRay Special Club

The specials have an 18v preamp thats a dead giveaway, but other than that I'm not sure how to tell unless you still have the receipt from when you purchased it. The specials have different magnets in the pickups and a few other differences like lighter hardware and a contoured body as well.

Yes, but only with the 4-string Specials. The 5-string StingRays have always had 22 frets. So, I wouldn’t say this is an “easy” way to distinguish Specials from non-Specials.

i'v got stingray special 5 maple h
when i try to record i got not enouge gain is it normal
what is your tips to get the best out of it when recording and play live some parametrs or thing to help me
i use helix and sometimes audient i4 and mark bass combo

After not being unboxed from the factory for over 7 months it was nearly in tune with only very minor adjustments to intonation being needed. This is my first Stingray and I am very impressed with the fit and finish. In comparison it feels more refined than my '17 Rick 4003W as far as build quality is concerned. I absolutely adore my Rick but I immediately needed to remove a pup cover and replace the bridge to make it playable for me. Conversely there isn't anything other than changing strings that would improve the Special for me.

Even though I've only spent less than 15 minutes plugged in, I'm a little surprised that the signature Ray tone has been somewhat elusive so far, at least the Ray tone that is in my head.

Any Stingray should have more than enough gain on tap to provide a good DI signal. You should be able to adjust the input gain on your interface to boost the volume of the signal being inputted. If anything, an active bass like a Stingray should require less gain than a standard passive bass.

Looks like Music Man may be introducing new colors for 2021. That could be fun. Or, it’s an error.

I don't know who is in charge of the paint colors at MM but they do a great job. They also are making it very difficult to refrain from getting more than one color. I love my 4H Maroon Mist (discontinued) with rosewood, but with the new colors coming next year once this first one is fully paid for it just may be looking for a new playmate. Maybe a 4HH with maple fret board next time or perhaps a short scale or maybe even a Sterling. I'm anxious to see the new colors. There are much worse ways to spend your hard earned money.

@Moonskunk, I'm with ya. I bought a used but mint Burnt Apple Special (maple/flats) soon after the Specials rolled out, and a year later got an exceptional deal on a used seafoam Special with ebony (rounds) that I couldn't pass up. Each is beautiful in its own way.
Edit: Cruz Teal is what EBMM calls its version of Seafoam Green.
