That's a bit better then mine. I even considering taking it to the luthier to reduce the width to 39-40mm.

Quick OT msg for ya: Just wanted to say thanks. Your videos have been instrumental (pun fully intended) in my conversion to the Cult of Ray (I love Frank Black, too).
I got an Amethyst Sparkle Special about a month ago (after a quick “I need a Ray now!” detour with a Ghostwood Special), and I will never look back. Eel is definitely my no. 1, my forever bass, my Jack and Jill of all trades. Thank your for your informative vids, and your praise of Rays!

I bought this pre-owned beauty a couple of months ago. First Stingray and absolutely love it. Weighs in at about 8.5 lbs. I put a set of EB Cobalt 45-105 strings on it and they sound great and feel really nice. Wondering what strings other folks here are using on their Stingrays.
I recently just bought one that is identical, serial number says its a 2018, but was spotless. The previous owner put a flat black PG on it. As for strings, so far I've tried Sunbeams and really like them.

Strings are such a personal part of the instrument; there's just so many different variables that go into what separates a good set from a great one. I've been experimenting a lot this past year with different strings, my favorites having just been installed last night-- Ernie Ball Group III flats. On my 4HH, this set is PERFECT! Others I've tried that were nice:
- DR Pure Blues
- DR Low Riders
- Stock EB Slinkies (still my favorite rounds-- tied with the DR Pure Blues)
- EB Cobalt Rounds (hated them right off the bat)
- D'Addario Chromes (flats)
- EB Cobalt Flats
- EB Group III flats
Best bit of advice I can give, is to try as many as you possibly can, and don't put too much stock in what you read on the forums (yes, even from me-- LOL!)

I've used EB slinky quite a bit and I have also had LaBella flats on it. I've been happy with all of these.

+1 with the Labella flats. When rounds are needed, I usually roll with DR nickel lowriders.
My Amethyst Sparkle Ray5 never ceases to put a smile on my face every time I play it. I just love what I call that StingRay signature BOUNCE to the notes. To me, this bass was made for Cobalt Flats. Once they get really broken in, they feel and sound amazing. I still have the stock Slinky round on my B string. I see no reason to change it out. When I first got this bass I had a spare 4 string set of cobalt flats and put them on immediately.
Im usually a TI Flats kind of lady, but not on my Precious Jewel. This bass has turned out to be one of my top 2 bass purchases ever. To me it looks like it should have been a BFR Bass.
So pleased with this one. Feels and sounds just right!!

Are those only coming in 45-130 gauge? (5-String Regular (45-130)) ?

I got a StingRay Classic last year, now I have her sister too, this beautiful StingRay Special, I hope that I can join this club as well.
Now I can't decide, which one to play, because I love them both so much, they sound amazing, nothing can beat the heavenly tones of the Rays.
