I’ve seen some photos of the Eclipse Sparkle, and it seems like in some lighting it can look slightly purple. It looks like Smoked Chrome is a more neutral grey (I also sorta dig the look with the black headstock)

The Pacific blue is gorgeous. I got my Charcoal sparkle used at a killer price, so I wasn't picking it for the color. I'm glad I ended up with a fretboard that is other-than-maple, though. With my P, I love the maple fretboard, but it's sealed and easy to clean. With the unfinished maple that EB uses, it seems like you must be very particular about what agents are used to clean and condition the fretboard.

But going on pure looks, the pacific sparkle kills it for me.

No bad choice here. The finishes are all amazing and even more so in person! I think the Smoked Chrome would be a little less in your face but would still look really cool under lights. Probably looks good in any style of band and would coordinate with clothing easily.


The blue sparkle would offer more for eye candy and people would probably be commenting on it more often than not.


Either way you’re getting one of the best basses available in today’s market.

If I decide to add a status neck down the line (not even sure that’s possible on the new Specials) I feel like the smoked chrome would be a better match.

would love to see some videos of the pacific blue sparkle if anyone has any. The marketing photo looks amazing but I’ve seen some photos that owners have taken and the color doesn’t look as nice.

The first real bass I ever bought was a SUB Stingray and, well, I’ve come full circle after 10 years of playing Fenders exclusively :hyper:

Any tips and tricks? String suggestions?

it sounds like smoked chrome is the better choice for you.

I suggest you search for the SUB Stingray club. This thread is for MusicMan StrinRay Specials, which is a different bass.

Sorry about that.

I have been using S.I.T. Foundations until recently. They are fantastic strings for this bass. I just switched to Roto SW66's cause I wanted a more growly sound for my current project. I may also go back to EB Cobalts. They sound really good on this bass. The bass is quite a chameleon. Lots of strings work well on it.

Nice Ghostwood! Just out of curiosity, did you buy that on Reverb? I just sold mine on Reverb so that I could finance my new Amethyst Sparkle baby. :D
