I really like my Tectonic Blue SRS 5 HH. But I say the same about the Aqua. It is the only color I'd trade for. The Amethyst is also a great color! But the Aqua looks sweet IMO!

The first real bass I ever bought was a SUB Stingray and, well, I’ve come full circle after 10 years of playing Fenders exclusively

Seems like they keep flirting with the discontinued honeyburst finish but can’t quite bring themselves to actually bring it back.
I like it, but not enough to buy one. Having the 4 string bfr fretless from 2019 I don't feel the need for that one. I was hoping for something different for this run of BFR's. I have recently been tempted again by the passive BFR from December 2020. That is a great bass that I regret selling.
I found it on Reverb.Nice Ghostwood! Just out of curiosity, did you buy that on Reverb? I just sold mine on Reverb so that I could finance my new Amethyst Sparkle baby.
What I usually do if it's a store (rather than a private seller), is to contact them directly. Worked well in this case: Bass Brothers UK were forthcoming with pricing and other issues.
The New Ray is not here, yet. Still in transit, waiting for inbound customs clearance...
Slinkys. Cobalt Rounds. DR Nickel Lowrider. These work for me. Cobalt Rounds sound the best to my ear. But I play 5-strings, and the .125 B-string available on the Lowriders excels. YMMV.

I agree with you. The first run of fretless ones, the passive okoume ray, the pink champagne (I own two of those three) are absolutely amazing and unique instruments. However I feel like many of the subsequent releases feel very derivative and they don't really 'wow' me as much.

Whats the difference sonically vs a Slinky nickel round? Are they very stiff or higher tension?
Cobalt Rounds deliver extended lows and highs. The highs can get pingy on an HH Bongo (like a young Cyndi Lauper) but work very well on a StingRay. The lows and low-mids have a velvety purr quality — lion’s purr, not house cat’s; Kathleen Turner comes to mind. And the extended lows, they bring out the best in a single-H StingRay — Special or pre-Special — IMO. The tension is similar, if not the same, as Slinkys, and the feel is a bit rougher, but not as abrasive as steels. They are slightly blue (cobalt) and will share that coloring to your fingers over extended play.I wasnt aware EB had Cobalt Rounds

But that doesn't take away from the fact you sparkled my curiosity as to EB Cobalts.
My incoming Special single-H is equipped with GHS Pressurewounds, which I like on my pre-Special Ray.
Oh, and cobalt, like nickel, is a heavy metal, so they qualify for best strings for metal, if that matters to you.
Extended lows, well, Mr. White comes to mind. Knock-the-knickers-off-half-the-audience-lows Barry White.

This fretless sure is sweet but maybe I am an outlier by ultimately preferring a regular Special. There are some really beautiful production Specials and it would be just as much of a luxury for me!
EBMM specs say the Neck Width of the Special is 1-11/16" (42.86 mm).
I was suspicious since I got mine because it feels wider, and measured it today with Digital Vernier Caliper.
The result is 1.74'' (44,19mm).
Is such a difference normal and common?
