I am. The first series of Specials from 2018 were great, but I don’t like any after that
I'm with you on the gold hardware.... until I saw the BFR kingpin. That one gets a huge thumbs up from me, and I'm thankful that it is only in 4-string. Otherwise I'd be required to refinance the house.
Chandler music makes the OEM pickguards for EBMM basses and has a wide selection of alternate colors and finishes that are of the same quality. I traded out my B/W/B layered with gloss finish for all-black matte finish to match the non-glossy pickup, bridge, and fretboard. Chandler helped me get the correct thickness so it matches the stock one. I dig the way the matte pickguard contrasts with the gloss of the charcoal sparkle.
Gold hardware grows on you. Once you buy a bass with gold hardware you will buy more!
Me. Except for Black (but I'm not a black instrument fan), amethyst sparkle (but I'm not a Prince tribute band member, and I hate white pearloid pickguards) and Speed Blue (don't know if I dislike the black hardware, or if I'd just bypass it), the other ones look bad to me.
Where do you guys buy replacement pickguards?
I sent MM an email, in order to know where to find a tortoise or parchment replacement for my SRS5H, and they sent me a link for a IIIrd part manufacturer (in the USA)...
I wish you could get black with an ebony board...
Do the maple boards on the Special’s roasted necks have any kind of finish on them? Have they been oil finished?

The front is the same as the back— a oil/wax blend. By far the best feeling necks I’ve played
The maple fingerboard is from the same piece of wood as the neck; they just slice a piece off, install the trussrod, and reattach the fingerboard. Depending on the grain, this process can be very obvious when looking closely at the sides~

My new (to me) Special 5H arrived today!
As a long time StingRay fan, these Specials truly are something else. This is my first time playing one, and I have to say EBMM has really raised the bar as to what’s possible on a production level instrument.
Everything about it just feels “tight” and purposeful. The 3D tuners are so unexpected but actually add something wonderful to the feel of the instrument. I’m not sure if my 2010’s neck felt this good when it was new, but the neck finish is exceptional. The fretwork is excellent with the added benefit of being stainless steel, and the new preamp is incredibly flexible in a wide variety of settings. The bass also took to some scarily low action. And the best part - it all comes in at only 8.5lbs! Gotta love it!
Quick question - what exactly does the Series with Filter setting do sonically? I can’t quite seem to hear what’s going on when I set it there.

Nice 5! To me series with filter actually sounds like a slightly thinner version of parallel. It’s brighter than series to my ear. Might be some kind of HPF on series or something.
I just got my Special 5H two weeks ago myself. Definitely my fav Stingray I've ever played. I agree the neck is super comfy.
I agree the series w/filter sounds like a HPF is applied.
If it's just an inline capacitor and someone knows the value, let us know please.
I'm not very technical, but I noticed I get a hum issue in series w/filter mode if I'm not touching the strings- but only when I plug my headphones into my laptop (not connected to my rig except using same power strip). Obviously this is a wiring issue in my place, not a bass issue, but I don't get this in the series or parallel mode. And if I unplug my headphones then it's dead quiet.
Thought maybe this is a hint to what's going on in the wiring scheme to someone with more knowledge.

" You like your basses to look like brisket and ice cream" LOLOL! Good thing I wasn't drinking anything when I read that!!! I love sparkle paint, and I must admit the Amethyst may not be over the top, but it's close. At first I wasn't sure I could rock it , but it has grown on me. I almost bought a Tectonic Blue sparkle 5H, but they were all in the 9+ pound range. I ended up with the Race Blue which is more of a metallic than a sparkle and im very happy with it. And it weighs 7lbs 14 oz!Amethyst sparkle is the best finish they have ever done .But it definitely isn’t for the faint at heart.
You like your basses to look like brisket and ice cream . I like mine to shine like precious jewels adorned with pearls and gold. Just like my jewelry box. What lady doesn’t like to shimmer and shine.
