Does an ebony board add weight? I'm sure it wouldn't add that much, if any, but my Special 4H with ebony far outweighs my other two Specials, which have roasted maple. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
I have no idea if it adds weight but it's got a sound character that's hard to describe. It's sort of like a piano hammer attack on a Steinway Grand that is rock solid upon contact with the string against the fret. If it does add weight it's a welcome trade off. The rosewood fret board on my 4H sounds somewhat warmer and you don't get that same solid feel of contact, almost as if some of the energy is being absorbed into the rosewood board. Love them both though.

No I actually got one in the mail from another TBer.
If you call EB CS, they will sell you some parts like the switch tip even though it’s not listed on their site.
My ebony ash aqua sparkle weighed a pound more. But it was HH. Too many variables to pin point. The sound wasn’t as smooth either.
For me the what I assume is alder ,rosewood weight and sound is perfect for me.
What I meant to say was my Amethyst Sparkle 5H that I assume is alder , rosewood is perfect in sound and weight .
Honestly for me I mostly just like how ebony looks! Hard to say any other effect from my personal experience.
I can hear more sustain and clarity with ebony. It has a certain sizzle to the notes. Not as warm as rosewood or as snappy as maple. Maple has the clarity but the notes bloom more quickly with maple to me compared to ebony.
I misspoke earlier. My Amethyst Sparkle 4H is *rosewood*, while my Burnt Apple 4H is maple and my Cruz Teal 4H is ebony. I agree with your assessment of the tone of each. I hear a clear difference between my three.
Same weight too. Exactly the same
Both look great, especially the Aqua Sparkle (maybe I'm biased as an Aqua Sparkle 5H owner!)
