I decided after some trial and error that I am not a 35” scale guy and I prefer the narrower nut width at 1.75”

I fully understand that, probably I'd keep the 34inch if I had too and one day would like to try a Modulus FU5 (those are 34 inch). I'm not a believer of a clear superiority of 35 scale on low B quality so...

Those blue tectonic are gorgeous by the way!

Here is an updated photo of my 2 Stingray Specials since I changed the pick guard to black on the Tectonic Blue Sparkle. Never pulled off the clear plastic on either of the pickguards. The Maroon Mist 4H was my first Special and it sure is sweet! Looked up the serial number and turns out it was built on Valentines Day. Also recently picked up the Aguilar TH350 on top of the Warwick cabs and it sounds unbelievable with the Rays. My Trace Elliot Elf and GKMB 200 may see little use.

That Tectonic Blue sparkle looks awesome. I think that's the best picture I've seen of those. The sparkle basses are really hard to capture in a photo how they truly look in person.

I love the black pickguard on my dropped copper SRS. Mine is a black sparkle one though - you csn only really see it in the sunlight, but it looks really sweet.

That black pickguard makes a huge difference on that blue. Wow.

I finally tried EB Slinky’s 45-100 on my Special…I’ve had Sunbeams on it since I bought it. They do sound pretty good, only slightly stiffer than sunbeams, a bit more upper mids and edge, but less warmth. I’m not sure which I prefer, I kind of like them both. Sunbeams overall have more bottom and are a little more flexible, while Slinky’s have more bite and edge. I can see using either set depending on the gig.

So after having the Slinky's on my Special and tested in a few rehearsals and a live gig...I defiantly prefer Sunbeams. They have a noticeably fuller and tighter low end, warmer, less "clanky", and overall feel and sound better. Slinkys are probably fine for those who want more sizzle or highs or upper mids, but i cant wait to get Sunbeams back on

Sunbeams are what I had on my Jazz for a while and quite liked them before moving over to TI rounds. I may give the sunbeams a try again on my SRS. I tried quite a few stings but moved back to the basic slinkys because they suited it best of the brands I put on there.. but I don't love them and they are a tad rough on the fingers.

My Tec blue doesn’t get here until Monday but now I’m definitely going to have to get a black pickguard! That looks awesome!

Where did you get it and did you get a black switch tip too?

Always love the flake SR's but that Maroon Mist may be my favorite color of them all and have never seen it before.

Yeah, that Maroon Mist is underrated. I'm not big on red basses but this I could happily own:

I got the black pick guard direct from Ernie Ball Music Man. The black switch tip was stock on the 4HH and 4H but if you are getting a 5H Tectonic it will come with a white switch tip so you would have to swap it out.

Yes I agree, it may be my favorite color of all time. My Maroon Mist is about 8.2 lbs but my Tectonic is about 9.5 but it's sounds awesome and love love love the ebony fretboard!!
