EBMM StingRay Special Club

Looks like an MIM Flea signature model.Pretty bass! Both, actually. Is that a real '60's stack knob?!
Well, I won't compare the Special to the "Fender territory" signature sound. I always found the Ray being somehow "like" the Precision, but they're different.
The Special sounds a bit more open, fuller and maybe "sweeter" than the old non-Special, which may be considered (by me, at least
) a little angrier, less open and less versatile.They're shades of the same colour, which is a beautiful one.
I thought it was just me . I’ve always thought the StingRay Special H was like the bets of a PBass combined with the best of a Jazz Bass. But I’m glad I don’t have to make that choice.
Yes! I’m a longtime P and J player, I have two of each, that are great specimens with representative tones. There are things I like and don’t like about my P’s and J’s. They have different pro’s and con’s, and I use them for different use cases. The Special sort of combines what I like about each of them, the bridge pickup on a Jazz, with the fullness and punch of a P. With an eq tweak or change of strings, I can cover a lot of ground. I can’t say this about my older 96 Stingray, it sounds great but not a flexible.I thought it was just me . I think we have the only active positive thread on Talk Bass going this weekend where Ernie Ball is concerned.

The Sterling line isn't fairing much better with those infamous black tuners.
I haven't seen this much negative talk since the release of the Bongo and the big price increase followed by discontinuation of the Caprice/Cutlass line.
Back to our regular scheduled program. I enjoy my StingRay5 Special and my Sterling StingRay Short Scale.

It lives just below the G tuner and cures the G string's dead D.

they’re still cheaper than most fenders and Gibson’s, the factory pays close to what fender and Gibson do, and started paying that rate in 2007 or 08!
i miss them being one g though, feel pretty lucky to have seen those days, but it’s sorta everything is going up in price cause the pandemic
