EBMM StingRay Special Club

I haven't owned an HH, just a 4H (from before there was a choice) and Special 5H. I spent some time in a Guitar Center comparing two Special 5ers back when they came out and just liked the 5H better. I didn't buy either of those but it did help me when I was ready to look for one. I'm sure I would use it if I had it but the second pickup didn't enter my mind when I went looking for a Stingray5. My needs are filled but I'd maybe try a HH if I were to need another.

I find the Single H ergonomics of having those beefy MM poles and then all that room for slapping win over the single H Ray for me every time. I play very percussively and need the room to do all kinds of sixteenth note plucks and strikes with the thumb. I would love an HH to add to my bass collection of course - but to me the single H Stingray Special is where it's at.

I've never owned an H and my experience is limited up trying one in a store once. I liked it for sure, but can't say I used it enough to compare it to an HH and really listen for the differences. At that point I already had my first Stingray HH, loved the tonal options I got from it (I do use all five switch positions on a typical gig), and have just stuck with configuration with all three I've owned.

Certainly wouldn't be against owning an H at some point in the future, though.

... if I can find one in a burst finish. :D ;)

Was your HH a Special? I have a pre-Special BFR 4HH, and don't like it as well as my Specials for some reason. (I don't slap, so that's not the reason.) The additional settings somehow don't do much for me. I should probably sell it, tbh.
It was aqua sparkle/ebony special 5HH. Neck pickup was too close to neck .
I also just don’t seem to get along with ash.
I’m 100% satisfied with my current 5H Special .

I had a Sterling by Musicman 4HH before I bought my 4HH Special. It had tuner problems, noisy 5 way switch and just didn't appeal to me so it went back. I did notice the neck pickup on the Sterling had a little more space between the neck and pickup than the neck pickup on the 4HH Special making it easier to play in that space which is where I mostly play. I wish EBMM would have moved the neck pickup closer to the bridge pickup by an inch. Would have also given the 4HH a different sound I'm thinking for the better.

Can someone help me decide on a pick guard color? I'm wondering if Tort would be overkill.

For now, I took it off :)

I think tort or black would look great.

Maybe it would be too much, but I think a pink sparkle, pink acrylic shell or red florentine would look super cool...

Quick Guards

I love this guy's work (no affiliation, just a big fan).

Thank you guys so much. I really am starting to think tort or that red Florentine is definitely the way to go. I really like guy's stuff too thanks for showing me that site!

I have a black sparkle from quick guards on my special. I've also used him for a custom télé job. The turn around is usually kindof slow, but his work is exceptional

I also bought several pickguards from him. Same experience. Took 8+ weeks last time I ordered. Never disappointed with the result though.

You should check out a Sandberg TM2 5. I could never get into the SR5 HH and just couldn't put my finger on it. I picked up a Sandberg TM2 5 which has 2 humbuckers but back more towards the bridge and I love it, it's my go to when I'm not playing my Stingrays.
