An HS offering would be nice. Also would love to see a USA Sterling HS with the Special upgrades but now I am really dreaming. Can you imagine a downsized Sterling body with all the lightweight upgrades? A 7 pound Stingray!

Send EB all your ideas with artwork. I'm sure you could come up with better offerings than some of their recent ones. Give each one a creative name like they do. That will kick the presentation up a notch. Who knows, they may really like something you come up with and send you a free set of strings. I know you were counting on a new bass though .

To me, there something about a sparkle or a metal flake finish that almost demands a matching headstock!

DISCLAIMER: I'm a big fan of matching headstocks in general. But, if you're going for a sparkle finish, you go for as much sparkle as possible, right?!

Agreed! 50% of my MM basses have matching headstocks. The white one is sparkly too but more subtle than the others.

Although, I'm not sure that dozens of space aliens ooo'in and ahhh'ing over that collection conveys the level of ooo and ahh it actually deserves.

Funny you say that, here are a couple more that I did have but I regretfully sold.

I haven't had a short scale Ray though I wouldn't mind trying one out, they just happen to be pretty rare here. I did try a short scale SBMM though in a store and it seemed to play and sound well.

Nice! Did you do any processing or apply any effects, or is that all Stingray (not sure if the bass was “synthy” or if that sound was something else in the mix). Sounded great regardless.

Interesting that you used Pos 5 for a funk type of sound. I usually use Pos 5 with a raspier overdrive to get a gritty rock tone on our harder rock songs. Vive la difference!

I love the 17.5mm string spacing on this Special 5. I know a lot of people gripe about it, but I love chording and runs and it feels so slick to have everything so accessible. When I go back to my 18mm Stingray4 or my BB735 I feel like I’m slowed down.

I definitely feel the same. I love the spacing on my Stingray 5’s and my L-2500, which are all 17.5mm.

I once had a Lakland 55-02, which is an extremely well made and versatile sounding bass. I really wanted to love it, but I never adjusted to the wide (19mm) spacing and the longer (35”) scale length.
