My StingRay Special is being shipped with Super Slinky 40-100. I've had people tell me that those strings generally sound really good on a StingRay. What say You? Did you immediately change to your favorite string or did you give them a chance?

If you don't mind buying from an online retailer try Apex Strings. They are the folks that made strings for Dean Markley. I've used their Cryo stainless steels and was quite impressed. Less sticky or rough feeling than Blue Steels but with the same growl. Great customer service too. Highly recommend!I've had my SRS's for a bit over a month. The Slinky's that came on my 4H went dead kinda quickly, but the Slinky's on my 5HH seem to be holding up fairly well. I've actually changed the strings on my 4H twice. After the Slinky's died, I put on a set of DR High Beams, which I like, but I've had an issue with DR Strings since I started using them some years ago. Every once in a while, I'll get a set with one string that's DOA. It's usually either the E or the G, unless it's a 5-string set, then it could be the B. I dunno what it is, but it kills me every time I get one. I have several sets laying around, but I only use them if I have other strings to swap in case I get a dead one. So, after one show on the High Beams, I swapped them out with what I normally use, Dean Markley Blue Steels. The Blue Steels ROCKED on the 4H!
So, I've gone from D'Addario's to DR's(High Beams & Black Beauties) to Dunlop Super Brights to my current faves, DM Blue Steels. I've had a set of Blue Steels on both of my Spectors for almost 3 months and they still sound like new, which I love. My only issue with the Blue Steels is they're kinda hard to come by, so I buy a few sets when I can. Even though I have a string rejuvenator, it's still nice to have some fresh strings ready to go.

I can offer this as a report. Im loving the extra snap and the way the notes bounce back with rounds on this bass. Position 2 is a really nice funky jazz bass vibe. Position 4 is nice for fingerstyle and with the right EQ, a nice thick expanded range Pbass tone. I have found no use for 5 yet. But Position 1 is pure StingRay bliss . I might consider trying DR Blues or Marcus Miller Sure Brights . I like a nice bendy string with a good rich low B.My Amethyst Sparkle H wears a custom light set of Ernie Ball Slinky ( Cobalt) Flats.
