This is what I meant by that statement.
To my ears, with the revoiced preamp and the neodymium pickups, the Specials are already voiced closer to the old 2 band StingRays than the pre Special 3 band models. It lacks that metallic ping that I did not like, especially on the ceramic pickup models.
When I speak of vintage 2band tone , I’m hearing Get on The Floor, Lady In My Life, Ain’t We Funkin Now, Stomp, Le Freak, Good Times, I’m Coming Out, We Are Family, Greatest Dancer, Do I Do, Super Freak, I Need Your Lovin, Square Biz, Another One Bites The Dust, Paradise, Hang on To Your Love, ect. It’s that smooth with just the right amount of bounce to the notes StingRay signature sound that I love so much. TI Flats and Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt Flats and the right EQ for the song gets me there. Sometimes it takes a certain right and technique as well.
