I hope so. I want to keep them around. I’m not a big slap guy but these sound really good for that style. Pick, fingers, effects, all sound good. But if I can’t make quick string jumps without my plucking hand getting stuck then I’ll have to give them up

Just keep playing them. They’ll settle in and be very comfortable. You can always try the old trick of eating some fried chicken and then playing your bass. That’ll break them in quick!

I play every day and although I love chicken (especially Popeyes) I don’t think I can eat fried chicken every day without dying. Lol

Second entry to this club for me. Collected this today (was scheduled for early January).

It's very nice indeed and the B string is very focussed - even with the bass boosted (and anyone who's played one of these new Stingray Specials will know how much boost is there). Once again perfect build and finish quality.

Cheers - I ordered it in April!!! Nice they sent it in time for Christmas though. It's slightly heavier than the four string version but still a lot lighter than my other Stingray 5.

Ps not sure how you've got on with the flatwounds - I have TIs on a Classic Ray but my favourite ones are EB Cobalt Flats (Slinky Flatwounds) - have them on a Fretless 3 band SR4. For the first hour or two a tiny bit sticky but after that they are great - excellent balance between a thumpy flatwound and a zingy roundwound. They've been on the bass for 18 months and still sound just as good. Similar tension to the TIs as well.

That is a cool surprise, waiting sure is tough when you know what you’re getting!

My Cobalts didn’t arrive, they got lost in the post. Waiting for a replacement set, but could be middle of next week. I used Cobalt flats in the past on my old Lull, I really liked them so am looking forward to seeing how they react on my Special. I’m a big fan of Cobalts, TI’s, Chromes and LaBella, they are all so different but I like the way they suit different basses, for my tastes anyway. Feeling optimistic about Cobalts on the Special.

Has anyone discussed yet why the HH has a huge back plate for electronics access that the H doesn’t have. I’m no specialist, but a second pickup shouldn’t require that much more cavity space should it? Any purest would say that a full body cutout of that kind would totally change the tone.

There's significantly more electronics involved with the HH.

On the 5 string, there is a much larger route on the front of the instrument, and all the controls are mounted to the much larger scratchplate.

On the 4 string, the controls are mounted on the control plate, but on the HH model there is the pickup selector switch, which is mounted through the back of the body.

Great color!!
Aged pearl pickguard would really pop on that finish . So would black . Especially with the black hardware . Once my custom pickguard comes in I might be willing to part with my black one .

I've owned one Stingray & two Sterlings over the years but I just discovered the new Stingray Specials. I think I'm salivating for the charcoal sparkle and/or the charging green but with a black pickguard - the white doesn't do it for me. I'd love to find a store by me that has one so I can see the colors in person :)

GC usually carries the charcoal sparkle in stock.

I got to my gig last night with barely enough time to get set up, so I didn't get any pics, but from the first note, the 'Ray's just killed! Had issues with my power amp and my wireless, but the basses were on point all night. I actually played the 4 as much as the 5, which I never do. I spent most of the night trying to find a go to setting, but they all sound great! I did discover that I do actually dig the bridge pup solo'd. I know that's THE SR sound, but I've never been the biggest fan of that sound. It worked for me a few times last night.

Photos don't really do it justice. I was planning to get a different pickguard, but now I'm warming to the simple classic look of the white pickguard. The roasted maple neck on my fiver is sooo dark and the white guard is a nice contrast.

But I agree a black guard would also look killer! Or black pearl, or... stop me now!
