EBMM StingRay Special Club

I sure do!!! Still got it!!!;)

I considered getting one of the old school G&G cases for my Old Smoothie to be more period correct. But sometimes being period correct and is like being politically correct..... :rollno:. Those cases weigh a ton and take up so much space.
To me it almost counter intuitive to pair the light weight Specials with such heavy weight case.

I know people are excited to see the Retro 70's models but for me personally, it would not be wise to go and purchase such a heavy bass and then possibly get the heavy case on top of that.

My Sandberg is the only bass that I have that is over 9 lbs ( Barely). Even my Old Smoothie is 8.5 lbs. That heavy case and a heavy slab body bass is a no go for me.
I hates to admit it, but this is the first I’ve heard of the G&G cases. Looks like a great option for the good ol’ fashioned hard shell cases.
I’d definitely look closer if I were inclined to get such a case.

The G&G case I got is very slim[thin] and light[from what I have gotten before] much less bulky than Hard Plastic that came with 25th Anniversary[aka Reflex] and was standard for EBMM until recently.

Well then again to be 'Politically Correct':) I am not sure what is 'Heavy' for you and respect your definition but this case is 11lbs and not bulky. Mono bags are what about 6 lbs?

So for me my Special is Ash 8lbs 2oz with case less than 20lb but yes I use Gig bag for any Bass I have owned recently but it gets a little heavy because of all the stuff I cram into compartments:)
Hmmm, that’s good to know too. The G&G cases I’ve had before have been really heavy .

With all of this talk about the Retro 70's model, Im still wondering if we will have any new seasonal BFR Offerings soon featuring the Specials. Perhaps they will introduce new finishes soon. I think I read somewhere that the latest Pastel offerings with matching headstocks and rosewoods boards are not being restocked?

Hopefully at least new finishes are coming soon. They don't seem to be restocking 2021 to mid 2023

Just see Store exclusives and Pastels recently

I read that also from the sweet water sight, but I don't believe it to be true. Every time they sell one of the pastels another one suddenly appears to replace it, or it says more on the way they will notify you when in stock. I wish EB would retire all the current colors and bring us a fresh new palette. It makes the older colors more desirable. Everyone wants what they can't have, great from a sellers point too. I haven't been excited about any of the Stingray Special colors since the 2nd release, seems like ages ago.

The sapphire iris looks blue straight on but from an angle it shifts to purple. (I tried to post photos but TalkBass keeps telling me "The following error occurred There was a problem uploading your file." when I try. It's under the file size and resolution limits.)
I jumped on sweetwater to see what you’re talking about. Both sapphire and emerald have that cool iridescence to them. But it always bugs me how much of the finish is covered by pick guard on the 5s. Such a cool finish, but you can only see about 55% of it.

One of my few, admittedly minor, complaints about the Stingray 5.

Got the new SLO Special set up where I wanted it this morning, and finally got some decent time on it at rehearsal today (had a show where I played guitar last night so was more focused on practicing this week for that). It plays amazing. I need to spend some time trying to figure out how to get the EQ set appropriately.

I had a parchment pickguard I had from having a regular StingRay Special a couple years ago (didn't work out because of neck profile). I put that on with a sticker I had laying around.

That bass looks great!!! That color looks more blue than green in your photo. The sticker and pickguard swap are the cherry on top !!

You can see it in this pic. The color flips between a deep royal purple/ emerald green/ and sapphire blue .

Ernie Ball has some amazing finishes.
