You might be right. A white pickguard might make the finish look a little darker and provide a nice contrast. And I say that as a HUGE tort fan.


Actually, mine originally came with a white pickguard. I'm the third owner and the second bought the tort as well as a parchment that he never used. He included all three when I bought it from him.

I just got a new Stingray Special 5 HH today. It's my first 5 string, so I expect it'll take some getting used to. The setup isn't terrible. I love it! I put the same strings on my 5HH and it sounds so good that way. I wish I had that MONO case.

Yes, mine is the burnt ends. On mine I think the tort pick guard is a bit too over top for the light burnt ends finish. It kind of visually over powers the wood. I think a white or black might look better on mine. I think the tort looks pretty good on your darker tobacco burst finish though.

I disagree with you. I think that pick guard looks killer on that bass!! The ONLY thing I'd do to it is condition the fretboard to darken it up a little. Sweet-looking bass!!!

This is so cool looking! is it BFR? And how is the finish now that youve had it for a bit, ive had really old satin black body finishes before and they get shiney in certian places and looks sketch, not sure if technology in paint has come along sicne then or if its not as satin as your picture makes it look!

It's more of a matte finish, and looks stellar. Tried a couple different strings so far: pressurewounds, some MTD groundwounds...just to take the top freqs down a bit.

What do we want to call this 1-off color? Fuscia Burst? Guava Burst? You made the right call keeping this color.
I'll bet this was the side project of one of the guys in the paint booth and it accidentally got added to the shipping pile.
I'd be interested to compare this to a real-world pic of the flamingo and see just how different they are.

And I'm sure there's at least one die-hard in here that'll insist that a tort pickguard would go great on that thing.

Being half Cuban the Guava burst makes me happy, perhaps a pastelito burst?
