EBMM StingRay Special Club

Do you care about weight? In my experience the Sterlings were heavier compared to the Specials.

I've seen numbers all over the place for both, however my 2023 came in at 8.5 pounds. The Sterlings can't have the lightweight tuners from the factory (asked EBMM last time I ordered; guessing the CNC program is essentially set for the different necks/models), and they still have the last generation bridge which is wider and doesn't have the hollow saddles like I saw on the new SR Specials.

I've got another Sterling that I'll hopefully have in hand in a couple weeks, so I'm curious to see how the weight comes in on that.

I am definitely weight conscious but took a chance on the new ones being reasonable. I still might put some ultralights on the Sterling now to get the weight just a shade over 8 pounds and eliminate the little bit of neck dive it has, but it's very well balanced on the strap and feels great as is.

@BellaB , have you built that Design Experience fretless yet? I was curious as to what you would design.

I’ve designed a few different mockups, but nothing is really speaking to my original design, I really wanted a stark white or a white sparkle and as of right now the closest to that is silver sparkle. Like others I find the colors to be a little difficult to discern. Even the Flamingo Pearlburst doesn’t really look like what I have, it’s hard to see the sparkle and it looks much more washed out than it is in person. I’m hoping others will show off their custom orders once they receive them and maybe I’ll get more excited. I think the seafoam is prettier than what I’m seeing. Seafoam Green, Apricot satin burst, black sparkle I have a pin in.

SeaFoam Sparkle probably looks so good in person . I almost bought one if the Guitar Center Exclusive Sterling Ray34 in that finish. It was a nice soft yet sparkling green . I just didn’t trust the hardware or trust rod.

SeaFoam sparkle Green is great complimentary bass to Bella Burst.

To this day, I think one of the most stunning StingRay's I've ever seen was a White Sparkle/maple board/white pearl pickguard 5-string that a local shop in Memphis had in the '90s. One of my sons worked there at the time. Some of the employees put together a mini-concert in one of the lobbies and my son played that bass. It looked so awesome under the lights. I should have snagged it since the White Sparkle was discontinued not long after that.

I couldn’t resist the BFR Crecendo .

That would be my exact design…..with either a fretless neck or fretted block in lays and gold hardware. Dang, you’d think that white would be a no brainer color choice on the custom design experience!!

Here's both of my SRS's, the fiver strung with cobalt rounds, the other one with regular slinky's

The seafoam sparkle was one that I noticed on the design experience that looks nothing like how it looks in person on my bass.

Here's a couple shots of my seafoam sparkle for those wondering what it looks like in person (it is hard to get a good pic to represent how it looks in person):

First of all, that is absolutely gorgeous!!! Second, this sort of proves my point. The colors on the custom experience really don’t illustrate well the color offerings. Especially the sparkles :(

the best way is to lookout the videos on YouTube of the offerings. They have some examples from the EBMM display wall at NAAM. Also, ithey have Orem videos where they flash through some basses. Freeze the frame or if all else fails, email them for a sample of the finish you are considering.

What do you think @BellaB ? I think that seafood sparkle is sweet and would look so nice with an unlined fretless board and gold hardware. , and aged cream pearl pick guard .

I’m very tempted!!! I wish they would allow us to choose no pickguard. I might reach out and see….
