Last night I tried out my StingRay Special 4H under fire at my blues jam. Al I can say is, Wow, I’m impressed! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Somebody once told me that it wouldn’t sound so good with blues. That was very wrong!
And that neck!
All that said, I do have it on the chopping block because I want a lighter one. I’d like to propose an unusual trade offer. To anyone out there with a lightweight StingRay Special 4H or 4HH who does not mind 9 1/2 pounds, I would be willing to swap mine plus $150 for an 8 pounder, any color. View attachment 3246328
That’s a nice pic and gig report. Since you purchased from GC , can’t you just return it and buy a lighter weight one?

Yes I can and probably will if it doesn't sell soon. I did happen to get this one at a very attractive price, lower than any other one I've seen. I rolled the dice and hoped for a light one and lost. However, I wound up with a beautiful bass in mint condition which happens to be a bit of a porker.

It weighs about what the 5 string Specials weigh with the ebony boards , double pickups, and heavier sparkle finishes. By the new Special standards, it is a heavier one. By old standards , it’s 2lbs lighter than the 2band Stingray I briefly owned.
I’d be looking for a lighter one too.
;)

I’d say you’re right. By the old standards, it’s a middleweight. By the new standards, it’s heavy.

Or he could just pick up some extra Christmas gigs & keep playing that one . Earn enough extra cash to make up the difference . Just be sure to return it before the 45 day period is up.
I could do that, but I’m kind of weird. Once I make up my mind it’s got to go, it’s got to go. I’m giving it a little time to perhaps sell, then it goes back to GC. Maybe next week. I’ve got a whole lot of basses to play. Also, I’ve got a Supro Huntington III coming tomorrow to have some fun with.

Oh yes it’s here, and very nice, the most Birdseye I’ve seen on a Musicman neck so far. Fit and finish is great. One thing I’ve just noticed is that (There is already a thread about it) the saddles can only be adjusted down a tiny bit, then the screws hit the top hole and don’t go down anymore. I think others have drilled out the top hole a smidge so the screw can go lower. Thoughts?

Check this thread out.

I played a charcoal grey 4H a couple of weeks ago and I can’t get it out of my head.
Been craving it bad.
But retired and hard to come up with cash like it was when I was working.
Trying to decide whether to sell my other basses, a Stingray 4H Stealth Black and a Fender Professional Elite P Bass.
But I love those basses too...
Driving myself crazy !!!

Whatever you do, it will be worth it.
