EBMM StingRay Special Club

My migration to the 'ray sound has been rapid. After 22 years of "not being into" the 'ray sound at all, then listening to one played after our band at a festival this summer and seemingly hearing it for the 1st time, it has become my preferred tone by a wide margin, and the band clearly prefers it. My new 'ray special 4H sounds great. My Sadowsky Metroline MM/J 'bucker does not quite nail the sound, and I now realize it's not in quite the same position (15mm farther from the bridge). My G & L L2K bridge MFD pup is also a 'reasonable facsimile of the original" but not quite a bullseye. My other basses haven't seen any action since the new 'ray landed, other than to do some A/B comparisons. The new recruit is strung BEAD, which is all I now play.

Nice looking bass, especially with the clear pickguard. Why cover up such a beautiful burst?! :woot:

I have an L-2500 that I really like a lot and thought was a lifetime bass until I got a Special to complement my first Stingray 5 (2007, has the electronics from the Sterling 5). The G&L is a great bass, but it's been in its case unused since I added my Special (and my Big Al, currently seen in my avatar).

Real sweet, looking bass! That’s some wild tuning. What type of music are you playing? Did you have to learn the entire neck over again from standard tuning? I couldn’t imagine playing like that.

That clear pick guard is an awesome idea. Didn’t even cross my mind. I’m wondering if all stingray and stingray specials are finished to the same quality underneath of the pick guard like the rest of the guitar is?

BEAD isn’t very wild. It’s just five string tuning without the high G . A lot of people do it and I really love it. I prefer it to a 5er.

Was just told by customer service that my custom Stingray 5 is 4-6 weeks out! I initially chose chrome hardware, then kept seeing basses with black and was losing sleep over it, lol. I reached out to see if it would be possible to change, then realized I did want chrome after all and had to send an embarrassing "disregard my last message" email. Silver lining was them replying with the update! Waiting is hard!

The wood grain looks amazing with the clear pickguard! I bet it's crazy in person.

Just played my first fretless stingray last night as I busted open my brand spankin new BFR fretless 5.

Series on pickup selector, boost the Highs just past the notch, boost the Mids about half way, and I boosted a bit on my amp around 800 Hz ish. Stellar. Absolutely stellar tone.
