Yeah. You. YOU weren’t quite right lol. Her bass is a prime example of what a Stingray 5 is. It’s a joy to play… besides the crushing weight… if you’re a weenie… or have back issues.
The BFR is the first of the new Special series I’ve held. Are they all super light?
Yeah, all of the SR Specials I've had and played seem to be a lot lighter than the pre-special Ray's used to be.
I definitely did a loud cat call whistle when I opened the case finally. Everyone was asleep at 11:30
Not sure about the BFR's specifically, but Specials generally seem to be lighter than previous generations of Stingrays. My first Stingray,a 2006 5HH, was a whopping 11.5 pounds, but it sounded SO good I didn't care. That Is, until I saw my 2007 5HH pop up for sale, a relatively svelte 9.5 pounds. So I sold my 2006 and bought the 2007. That's the Stingray I've been gushing about forever in the Stingray threads.
But my Special, also a 5HH, is a REALLY svelte 8.3 pounds. It's a joy to play on 4-set gigs.
Thanks! I was eyeing the fretted version on Sweetwater and then my old BFR giants orange popped back up for sale and I had to have it. Maybe after the first of the year I can snag your fretted twin!

Gorgeous. Though I’m always curious… does the bevel on the pickups bother you? I 100% could not get along with those. I remember back when I worked at GC (‘04-14) and at some point we started getting all these Stingrays and Sterlings with these weird beveled pickups. One of my really close friends and coworkers had a late 90’s 5er and I was absolutely in love with it. With dreams of owning a “new” stingray someday, I was actually mad that they changed them lol.
Fast forward to now since I’m MUCH more proficient with a pick I could get along pretty well and come to terms with the bevel.
I played a 2001 Stingray 5 for years, but just ordered a new one and have been thinking about this quite a bit. The old design was perfect - a rounded edge to the pickup cover with recessed screw holes. You could comfortably rest your thumb anywhere on the pickup. Then, the bevel you're talking went on for a while (not sure what years). Now, I honestly think the design is worse than the bevel you're talking about - it's just two screw holes that stick out of the edge of the pickup. For anyone who has played the old (90's-2000's) design and the new one - does it bother you?
I play a P Bass 90% of the time, so I'm used to dealing with a screw hole, but I can honestly say it's a different experience playing with your thumb anchored on the side of the pickup closer to the neck vs the side that's closer to the bridge.
This is definitely nitpicky stuff, but I would be lying if I said it didn't matter to me.

@lm183902 honestly the old school design on my ‘00 Stingray vs the new Special pickup design isn’t a big deal. It still allows me to anchor when I want. Different feeling for sure. But my thumb fits perfectly in between the screws and rests nicely in front of the “front” screw.
