Exactly !!!Totally. Warm but articulate with just enough mid growl. I think it's a case of the roundness of flats and the inherent edge of the the 'ray complementing each other.
I really want a fretless 5H, but finances are restrictive at the moment. How many here own more than one Special ? I have 5 counting my short scale . I lost track of how ,many @Todd Hamby has.
2nd question is who here is planning on buying another one and what's on your list?
3rd question might be tied to the 2nd...who is waiting for a Design Experience Bass to be built?
4th question.....what would you like to see offered at Winter NAMM 2025 form EBMM?
I just realized that this sounds like I work for the company, but I dont. Im just curious and thought of something to give some life to this thread.![]()
Ebony and maple options would be nice.I really want a fretless 5H, but finances are restrictive at the moment.
Though I wish there were more fretboard options.
I have 4 Specials & a 1 non-Special: 3 regular H Specials with different type of strings, 1 Darkay, plus I have a Stingray Classic. I’m seriously looking for an HH, in a specific color combination; when it’s in stock in Europe, I’ll get it ASAPHow many here own more than one Special ? I have 5 counting my short scale . I love that BFR idea!!! They have done a few of those already. There was a pink champaign sparkle and there was the Crescendo ( I have that one ).I have 4 Specials & a 1 non-Special: 3 regular H Specials with different type of strings, 1 Darkay, plus I have a Stingray Classic. Wish I lived in the US though, because the CDE is so sick (I’d die for a full gold sparkle beauty with matching headstock, and rosewood fretboard with block inlays), but with the delivery, taxes & customs I’d pay 1.5k dollars on top of the price of the custom bass, so this is not an option for me, sadly.
Regarding the NAMM Show, I’d love to see a passive, normal (not Tim Commerford signature) Stingray Special, a 2-band EQ active Special, or a wild BFR with an extremely figured, roasted birdseye maple neck, and a crazy sparkle finish![]()
I can't recall the transparent amber ? Sounds lovely. Im guessing that you don't play 5 string ?I'm at five Specials now, all 4H.
1. Burnt Apple/maple/flats
2. Amethyst Sparkle/rosewood/rounds
3. Cruz Teal (Ocean Turquoise)/ebony/rounds
4. Transparent Amber (Limited Run)/maple/flats
5. Black/maple/rounds (This was kind of an impulse buy because I was able to get it cheap.)
All of these were used, but near mint. All were relatively inexpensive, but a couple were dirt cheap.
I've come across a few tantalizing Specials out there, but so far have restrained myself! I could see myself with a Purple Sunset model, maybe a 4HH. Maybe in the spring or summer...
1)1 special 4H (Pacific blueburst/rw) and 1 BFR Okume/rw/passive, both BEAD-1 of these will end up with flats but I haven't decided whichHow many here own more than one Special ? I have 5 counting my short scale . I lost track of how ,many @Todd Hamby has.

Great suggestion on the Mono Vertigo.1)1 special 4H (Pacific blueburst/rw) and 1 BFR Okume/rw/passive, both BEAD-1 of these will end up with flats but I haven't decided which
2)I have to admit eying the harvest orange and burnt ends finishes, but would have to sell one of my other basses to get there (I roll with a max of 6...1 in/ 1 out) and am not "there" (yet?).
3)I inquired and EBMM replied they cannot guaranty bass weights on custom builds, which is an absolute deal breaker for me. The idea of spending that cash, waiting all that time....and then possibly receiving a bass that will never be played because it weighs significantly more than my others is not a chance I will take.
4)EBMM pick guards in a wide variety of finishes, and a top shelf EBMM bass gig bag available at their shop. The branded Mono case that came with my Special is a major upgrade from both wooden cases and older, rectangular molded cases, but it's still a rigid case that wants to be laid flat for access. Gimme a branded Mono Vertigo or similar pleeeeze![]()
LadyLoveStingray5 it’s up to 19 Stingrays total and I think there are 7 SpecialsHow many here own more than one Special ? I have 5 counting my short scale . I lost track of how ,many @Todd Hamby has.

1. Two Specials, a 5HH and a 5H. Plus, two 5HH pre-Specials and a Classic 5. (Also that Bongo 5HH in my avatar.) The pre-Specials get the most work (blasphemy here!) because I need to switch between standard and Eb tuning and keep things consistent. How many here own more than one Special ? A call to Music Man service is in short order. They are great to talk to and eager to help.Bad news: My new Stingray 5 is already having electronics issues
I was just playing and flipped the pickup selector switch from position one to two and got an almost total signal drop. Same thing in position 3. Position one is totally normal though. I imagine it’s probably just a cold solder joint or something, but I don’t really trust myself to fix it. Anything more than a cable and I usually leave it to someone else.
Does Musicman have authorized repair centers or do you have to ship back to them for repairs? Would love to avoid shipping to them if at all possible.

IIRC, you’re responsible for the shipping costs if it needs to go back to EBMM for any service or repairs, including warranty repairs and I don’t believe they have any authorized service partners/centers. Where did you buy it?Bad news: My new Stingray 5 is already having electronics issues

That's true. I have a houseful of four-strings that would be mad at me if I switched!I can't recall the transparent amber ? Sounds lovely. Im guessing that you don't play 5 string ?
