EBMM StingRay Special Club

IIRC, you’re responsible for the shipping costs if it needs to go back to EBMM for any service or repairs, including warranty repairs and I don’t believe they have any authorized service partners/centers. Where did you buy it?
If his bass is new , I would think and hope that EBMM will cover all cost under their warranty . ( including the shipping )
Buyer shouldn’t have to pay if it came from factory this way.

For any warranty work even if came that way; I was told Customer pays one way shipping;

Any material or workmanship determined defective by EB within the one (1) year term shall be repaired or replaced by without charge for parts and labor provided the unit is returned, transportation costs prepaid, to Ernie Ball, Inc., 4117 Earthwood Lane, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401, or to such facility authorized by EB. EB will pay shipping costs to return the unit to it's owner.

Yeah, if I have to pay to ship to them, that will definitely be a bit annoying. I received this bass on 11/26, so it’s been just over a week. And it’s a custom design - the fact that I waited/spent extra on it will make it hurt extra to send it back
Contact EBMM….I'm sure they will make it right .
I’m certainly no company representative , but I’ve seen in occasions where they throw in stuff like shirts and hats , strings, ect. for your troubles .
Keep us posted . Who knows, they might send you a shipping label .

Bad news: My new Stingray 5 is already having electronics issues 😬

I was just playing and flipped the pickup selector switch from position one to two and got an almost total signal drop. Same thing in position 3. Position one is totally normal though. I imagine it’s probably just a cold solder joint or something, but I don’t really trust myself to fix it. Anything more than a cable and I usually leave it to someone else.

Does Musicman have authorized repair centers or do you have to ship back to them for repairs? Would love to avoid shipping to them if at all possible.
I had a similar issue with my Special 4hh. I emailed EBMM and they had me record a video of the tapping each coil in each setting. They diagnosed from the video one of the coils was malfunctioning and had me send them the pickup (I paid shipping there) and they sent back a new pickup (they paid shipping back) as soon as they received the old pickup. It was probably 2 weeks from Ohio->CA->Ohio.

How many here own more than one Special ? I have 5 counting my short scale . I lost track of how ,many @Todd Hamby has.
2nd question is who here is planning on buying another one and what's on your list?
3rd question might be tied to the 2nd...who is waiting for a Design Experience Bass to be built?
4th question.....what would you like to see offered at Winter NAMM 2025 form EBMM?

I just realized that this sounds like I work for the company, but I dont. Im just curious and thought of something to give some life to this thread. 🤠
I'm such a rookie in this thread!!! I only have two. Both HH 4-strings (Burnt Ends and Raspberry Burst). But I have a bunch of other basses (Fenders; G&L; Lakland; Gibson).

As for your 2nd question, lately I've been jonesin' for another 4 HH in the Charcoal Sparkle. I sure don't need it, but ideally I could find a trade partner for one of my other basses. I've always said my personality isn't suited to sparkle basses (as beautiful as I think they are). But the Charcoal Sparkle seems just subdued enough that I could pull it off. :roflmao:

Are you a fan of tort? Have you seen charcoal sparkle with tort ? It looks soooo good. And I’m not big on tort . But that combo just pops!!
I’m also a firm believer that everyone needs a little sparkle in their life !! 😉💖

Actually, I DO love tort on certain basses. Generally, I don't like it with a maple board though. There are exceptions. But I'll have to look for a pic of the Charcoal Sparkle with tort. I think most of those have an ebony board though, so it might be tough to top the black guard!

I love most sparkle basses when others play them. But for myself, I feel like I look presumptuous. ;)

Does anyone find it useful to own both a SR Special H and HH? Do you use them for different situations? I love my SR Special 5 H and am looking to add another bass to the stable. The single H works great for me because I tend to be a "set it and forget it" type of player. That said, I am looking to add a 2 pickup bass to add some more tones. Specifically, I like a jazz bass tone for slapping. Listening to several video demos, it seems like the Stingray HH can get close to that jazz tone with the outer coils, and then obviously provide a bunch of other sounds with other coil positions. Anyway, I'm just curious if anyone finds it useful to own and use both the H and HH.

Yes .

Update on my 5 H pickup selector switch issue: I reached out via the support form on Ernie Ball’s website Thursday night, but still haven’t heard back. However, the next time I picked up the bass, everything was working. But then I went to play it again last night and position 2 and 3 were almost inaudible again. Then this morning, they were back! So it seems like maybe there’s a cold solder joint somewhere? Anyone know if it would void the warranty to open it up and flow a bit of solder the necessary connection? (Also, does anyone know what to look for as far as wiring to the 3-position switch?)

Of course, they say that unauthorized repairs or attempted repairs will void the warranty. And they mean it. It’s a CYA thing and it’s understandable.

But you can be careful and have a look underneath the pickguard. Use a low-wattage soldering iron and heat up the connections just enough to make the solder flow on the connection.

Be aware that the switch itself may have an intermittent problem or a wire going to the switch may have a problem. “Touching up” solder joints won’t solve that problem. So you want to be very careful and make your attempt as inconspicuous as possible in case you do have to return the bass.

And I would wait on response from MM before I did anything.

Good luck!

I snagged this one this weekend. I wasn’t even looking for a bass. I was marimba shopping for my granddaughter and saw this listed for $1500 below new cost.

No way it wasn’t coming home with me.

I’m keeping rounds on this one . I have a set of labella low tension flats coming for my Crecendo BFR 5HH. I’ll keep the Slinky Cobalt flats on my Amethyst 5H.

Nice! That neck is insane!

Now that I'm back in the MM club, I'm already considering a Stingray 5 HH 😬
