Is that ebony or rosewood? I meant to inquire about what was custom vs standard .
I went with ebony. This is my first ever instrument with an ebony fretboard and I’m really loving it. I played for a solid 6 hours yesterday and couldn’t be happier with this bass. I think I’ll always be a P Bass guy, but it’s nice to have this sound available again!
Tort' would be very nice, just as it would on a pale blue body. Another oft overlooked option is just going with a nicer version of white (pearloid instead of plain) or my personal fave, cream pearl, which plays well off the wooden board a lot better than true white. Also, if you go with tort, make sure it's brown tort' and not the kind that leans red.
I am considering an Ernie Ball Music Man bass, but I can only buy it online from Music Man themselves. It's not available through anyone else that I can find. Do any of you have experience ordering basses from Music Man online? I am a bit put off by their return policy, which states they charge a 20% "restocking" fee, which would be about $500 for the bass I'm looking at.
I have . I ordered a custom bass. I have heard of no complaints or issues when ordering direct . Several here have done so with positive results. If you have an issue with the bass that is the company fault I do t see why you would be charged . EBMM has a stellar reputation . I think you can get a weight if you are desiring a bass that is available in their Vault store .
But no you can’t buy just try and see if you like it and return it if you don’t .

When I got my bass, the intonation was a tad wonky, so I went through myself to get it super precise. I’m used to the saddles basically going from shortest to longest from low to high, but on this bass the E is an outlier. Is this typical? This is my first bass with a compensated nut, so I’m wondering if that’s part of it? Not an issue in any way, just different than what I’m used to seeing.

Unrelated to your question, but that’s one of the best tort pickguards I think I’ve ever seen. Super classy with the black!
All my EBMM basses — all 5-string and StingRay Specials included — go from shortest to longest from G-string to B-string in increasing increments. I use Ernie Ball Slinkys 45 to 130, Ernie Ball Colbalt Rounds 45 to 130 and DR Lowriders 45 to 125.

It’s Lavender Sparkle and it’s a real beauty!!
I saw this color when Design Experience was announced at NAAM. To my eye it appears to be a few shades lighter than Amethyst Sparkle . This is why I stuck with Amethyst for my custom build. I prefer it. Not too dark , not too light, just right.
This Lavender is very nice. Black hardware doesnt work for me either . But since they went black , I’m questioning why they didn’t go with ebony fingerboard to match .
