EBMM StingRay Special Club

I'll be joining this club in a few days. Just ordered a Black/Maple 4H from GC and they even honored my 20% off friends and family coupon. I played one last week (Dropped Copper 4HH) and loved the roasted maple neck and the light weight. I’ve always been a rosewood fingerboard guy but the roasted maple looks so good. I’ll post pics when it arrives.

Only recently got my first stingray (4 HS), but when I saw these new 5 strings I had to bite the bullet. Sweetwater's 48 month financing made that decision pretty easy too.

This bass is absolutely fantastic. The feel and playability of the neck is out of this world, and the contour of the body is comfortable as hell.

I only have 2 very minor gripes.
1. The black tuners appear to be painted. Feels like rubber, yet the bridge is powder coated. Why aren't the tuners like that? That's what Hipshot does...
2. The eq flat is very bass heavy, BUT the EQ is very easy to work with and you really can't get a bad sound. There's no doubt that this is very much a Stingray.

Congrats on the beautiful bass. I will suggest to watch out for those tuners btw. The paint does come off near where the strings go in if you are not careful. I also noticed this is the hardest bass to restring I've ever had. The slot is cut so shallow that it is hard to get that initial wrap around the peg before the string slips out.

We haven't yet had a plating issue on the tuning keys. We've been using the same machine (different head) for the Bongo for several years.

We would love for all the hardware to match but the screws, bridges, tuning keys ect are all plated in different locations. That's why you don't see more hardware platings on instruments.

Easy to understand this. Everyone may find a minor setback or something not quite perfect for them in any instrument, but overall MM just makes amazing products.

Played with some guys with the new Stingray and did some recording. This thing tracks so well. I put Ken Smith Slick Rounds on it and although it doesn't sound as good to me by itself as it did with the rounds, it sounds amazing in a mix. I find myself still using the standard Stingray 1st position about 80% of the time but I don't think I could live without the other pickup for changing things up. Great insrument. Well done EBMM!

Hmmm.... really embroiled in these comparisons I'm making... What do you guys think of the Stingray 30th against the new Specials? For some reason, going back to listen to a 30th makes it sound filtered, or like there's not a lot of high end definition. Can't say for sure because I haven't played one in person. Basing it off Tony Levin's excellent demos:





Is it more of the preamp or the pickup thing? And here I am still also debating a Classic... I'll be able to hopefully check them out in person next week, hopefully!

My 5 HH Special Low mid definition is great through every
rig I use it with, upper mids are a little darker than my Ceramic SR5
H, but thats fine because I can dial in what I need. This is my first HH and the variations are worth it. I tried the 30th and aside from the BFR quality, my ceramic SR5 had better mid punch.
