You can run a tap through the bottom of the saddle and cut new threads through the top. I've done it. It's not hard, just tedious.

I ordered the 3-pack of Music Man shims, but they’re only partial shims. That’s what Music Man uses on their instruments. But I also ordered a 3-pack of the Tascam, full-pocket wooden shims from Amazon. The .025° worked for me.

I was wondering about that, MM are partial shims not full. Does Tascam sell them for specifically stringray?

I noticed that Hot Honey basses are a bit of a lottery; namely, a wood grain lottery. Most of the ones I see are kind of ugly, and some are absolutely out of this world. I didn't feel like waiting for one to arrive up here in Canada and I didn't want to be disappointed if I got a bad one, so I cancelled my preorder.

Instead I checked out what was in stock at the reputable shops and ended up ordering this:

Biggest requirements were: Something subtle or classic, single humbucker, and it had to have one of those Mono cases.

I didn't think much of this finish at first, but then I saw a Facebook reel of Eddie's Guitars where they showed it off and it kinda blew me away.

Wish me luck.

I agree. It reminds me of the old 1969 Corvette Stingray "fathom green" color. As a car guy, that makes me happy.

I misspelled it before. It’s Tosicam. But I got the set of different sizes and they seem to be as good as the StewMac shims.

I bought some flats for my new bass. Did I pick the correct ones for a Stingray 4?

What problems?

The saddle screws aren’t stable so the saddles move during playing. This is especially obnoxious on a gig. I know I can use Loc-tite but that sucks if I have to make adjustments later.

I'm not really a shims or loctite type of guy. I expect my instruments to work the way I want them to right out of the box.

That being said, I have played two Specials and a handful of pre-2018 Stingrays, and I had great experiences with all of them. The Specials are definitely the most comfortable due to the weight reductions and fantastic necks. The only negative was the high E on the 5, but that's a common complaint.

I'm thinking of selling the 5HH fretless I got a few months ago... it's an amazing bass, but it doesn't have that holy grail tone that my Bordwell 6 does, and I'm starting to really notice it. Anyone think I'll have a hard time selling it?

I'm still keeping my fretted 5HH, so I'm not being a traitor, here!

A fretless should go faster as it's rarer. Still, it's a bad time to sell anything right now so be patient regardless.

If I do this, I likely won't be selling it for another year, as it will take that long for its replacement to be built/arrive. I'd love to keep it, but I just don't know how much I'd use it, once I get the other one. Hopefully, a year from now, 5HH fretlesses will still be a rarity.

As someone that has almost sold of my beloved Sandberg on more than one occasion, I would be too hasty to sell.

My mistake was comparing my Sandberg to my EBMM basses and Fender. I didn’t buy it to sound or feel or to play exactly like those basses. I learned to prize it for what it brought to the table . Turns out , I like it better than any Fender and It is a great complimentary bass to my EBMM’s.

Your EBMM Fretless is something you ordered to your own specs. It isn’t designed to be compared , just appreciated . You might grow to love it for what it is , not what it isn’t. I would hold onto it and play it as much as possible .

If you order something else, you might be in the same situation. Even within the same style or brand or builder,same woods , every bass just isn’t going to always inspire us like the other will.

Guilty as charged !!
Each of my basses inspire me to play them in different ways. Some have the same specs , but different strings inspire me to use different eq and switch settings .

No one likes to color with the same one crayon or paint color. Let each bass inspire you in different ways.
