EBMM StingRay Special Club

It's really close to the edge of the fretboard on the 5.
I find that the increased tension from tuning the high string up to G really helps a lot with this.
I guess my big fear is that it won't get played when that new one comes. I don't have a lot of redundancies... one 6 fretted, one 6 fretless, a 5 fretless, and two 5 fretteds but one's a Wal, and I don't take it out as much because it's heavy (hence, the other fretted, the '24 5HH).Guilty as charged !!
Each of my basses inspire me to play them in different ways. Some have the same specs , but different strings inspire me to use different eq and switch settings .
No one likes to color with the same one crayon or paint color. Let each bass inspire you in different ways.
I have a year to figure it out... I don't need to sell the SR to pay for the other one, although if I did, it would go to that.
I'll keep you posted, no worries. Still plenty of gigging to do on this one in the next year!
I'm a guitar player too, and I have three of them. I don't play all of them often but I keep them because I like them and each one has its place in my life. I try to buy quality things and keep them without regret. I'm not a big fan of cycling through gear, or anything else for that matter.
Stingray 4H in "Fallout Green" arrived today. Here's a bad picture of a beautiful instrument.
Some notes:
- This bass is flawless. Not a single defect that I can find on any part of the bass, and I'm pretty anal about these things and looked everywhere. I've got Gibson guitars at the same price point that have flaws, so I have come to expect something to be present, but there is really nothing here. This is the best made production instrument I've ever held in my hands.
- I was initially weary about this color being dull but I should have known better. The finish is stunning. A deep forest green complimented by a dark rosewood board and a parchment guard. Whoever picked the colors for this model did a fantastic job. I have been put off by many of the wilder color schemes on Stingrays but not this one. It's an instant classic.
- I was going to get the Hot Honey but I am glad I went for this instead. It is far more understated and I love the rosewood board and white nut over the black one on the Hot Honey.
- The bass was not set up great. The neck looks completely flat and there is zero clearance under the strings when I put a capo on 1 and my finger on 15.
- The case is lighter than a hard case but I'd say also less protective overall. It is designed to fit both the 4 and the 5 so the 4 does move around in it a bit. I was not happy with that. That being said, there's about 4 inches of clearance from the top of the headstock to the inside top of the case, so the bass was completely fine even though the FedEx guy delivered it upside-down (LOL). If I wasn't just a guy playing at home I would want a hard case, but I'd say this is fine for most people. Shipping your Stingray in this case inside a regular EBMM cardboard box should be fine.
I will be doing a slight adjustment to the truss and putting on my LaBella LTFs as I have already gotten a massive blister from these rounds. Guitar player problems, I guess. Looking to pair this with (probably) an SGT-DI pre for quiet playing at home and my Orange OB1-500 head when it's time to get more rowdy.

One of the best finishes EBMM has ever done. If they hadn’t released the Purple Sunset finish , which looks like Honey fading into purple edges, I would have went with Hot Honey.

Gorgeous. They have one here locally, it would have been my choice if I went for a 5.
Great color combo, especially with the roasted maple headsock which I’m not typically a fan of on a lot of the colors. This all matches so perfectly.Two more. Don't mind the smears, I intend on using it.

Love that finish. Hot Honey with a roasted flame maple fretless fingerboard would be irresistible.
Wow! Love that finish. How do these leave the factory with such a poor setup? I've seen similar comments here and in reviews, and it just boggles the mind for $3000 instruments.
I've been eyeing the "dazzler" finish. On Ernie Ball site it looks quite pink, but in other photos it looks more white. From what I can tell, it's actually white with pink sparkles and that sounds deadly to me.

I currently own 5 of these basses and have owned 3 others. None of them have had set up issues or needed shims. I’ve had no QC issues of any type . This holds true of the 2 Carpice
and the USA SUB and Old Smoothie that I’ve owned.
Everyone’s experience is going to be different. If you like a really low set up like I do, the margin of error on neck geometry becomes very small. The neck has to be perfect and even Ernie ball is not able to do that with every bass. Personally, I’ve had to shim every single Stingray I’ve had, to get low action, and that’s about five. But every one of those basses would set up fine just a couple 64ths of an inch higher and you would never notice what I noticed. For reference I like my strings to be 3/64 or less at the 12th fret. I prefer that the bass doesn’t rattle at 2/64 so I know I have some forgiveness. If it buzzes at 3/64 or higher, it’s outtta there! However, I realize that achieving low action without buzz, versus not even be able to get there because the bridge doesn’t go low enough are two different things. I have no problem needing to use a shim, I do have a problem with rattle once I get as low as I want.
