I installed the Cobalt Flats today.
First impression ... very nice strings. Brighter than my TI Flats , great B string, good tension that feels just right. They are a little sticky but I expect that to go away once broken in. They do showcase every nuance in your playing and I notice more finger noise as I move up and down the strings. Purple wraps are pretty.
I think I like these strings.

They do have a coating of some kind that wears off after a short time. Then they get all magical. I've strung nearly everything with them now.
Today, I broke out a Big Al 5er and was like, 'What the - this is WEIRD." I hadn't played it in so long that it still had TI Flats, which were my string of choice for years. Decades, even. After a little bit, I got used to them again (and really went nuts trying to EQ the thing) but there's no going back, I reckon, once you go Cobalt Flats.

I think the Cobalt Flats are good for my Stingray5 Special. But TI Flats are perfect on my Caprice.
I don’t think I’ll be returning to roundwounds. Flats feel best under my fingers and I can play faster with less effort.

Have you tried LaBella tape wounds? Smoother than TI with more top end when you dig in.
No I haven’t. My TI Flats are 3-4 yrs old now and well broken in. I like what they bring to the table. I don’t anticipate ever having to replace them. I like the lower tension as well.
Just spent another afternoon on the Cobalt Flats . I can feel a difference with the coating wearing off already. These strings put a big smile on my face. Interesting. When the Colbalts first came out I tried them on my old Ray that I had regular Slinkys on and I hated them. Literally ripped them off after a half an hour and put the Slinkys back on. i wonder if the flats are different.I installed the Cobalt Flats today.

It probably depends on exactly what you are looking for feel and tone wise in a string. I like lower tension strings. I’m looking for versatility . A string that can give that old school Louis Johnson and do new school modern as well.
That's great! I will say the 45-105 LaBella tapes are lower tension than TIs. Almost too low. You found your string! That's half the damn battle.
I havent tried the cobalt flats but the cobalt rounds were amongst the worst strings I have ever tried in my life.
I had the same experience. Yes the flats are different. I dig them .
I put Chromes on my P5 and I’m liking them so far. I like that the Specials are more mid-focused than older Rays was that was always one of my beefs. I’d like to tame a bit of the “zing” too.

Knowing not all 3 knob eq’s are the same, I can say I really like the bands and sweep of all 3, but particularly I am finding the bass knob is easy to be subtle with, and has a nice smooth sweep as it comes on.
