EBMM StingRay Special Club

Such a classic Stingray look! :bassist:
Thank you! I’ve always wanted a stingray, and with so many amazing colors I was tempted to get something crazy. They had 3 of these at sweetwater, and I opted for the lightest one. I’m a sucker for black on black, and every time I pick it up I become more attached to it. I’m bad about modifying my basses, but I’m not even going to change the pickguard. The only thing I did was install Dunlop flush mount strap locks.

Calling all SR lovers. I’ve got a friend hear in sunny FL who wants a ray. But…. He’s a lefty. Kinda hard to find a used one. If ya’ll see some give me a nudge. He’s looking for a 4 string.

He can also order one exactly to his own specs here .

Hi all, I've got a question - and please delete if this is not the right thread for it - but my 2024 4HH has quite a loud hum in positions 2 and 5 (and a noticeable hum in position 3). 1 and 4 are silent. For those wise in things, what is likely to be going on with it? I have a video of the issue, but it is in a format that I can't upload to the forum. Any advice would be grealy appreciated.

Finally got my Tim commerford bass back from Sweetwater. Took about 6 months, 3 pickups, 3 preamps, and a few sets of wasted flats. Love musicman basses and Sweetwater for sure (they ended up really helping with electrical problems). But I think this bass is cursed. First time I ever (out of thousands of times I’ve restrung) went to put strings on a bass and realized I bought the wrong scale. Cursed. Still haven’t had a chance to play it much but at least it works as intended. I don’t know, I’m sort of scared of playing it. I feel like something is going to just blow up on me. Neck will just randomly break in half or something. Cursed. She sounds great for now! I am planning on getting a Sterling sb14 so this might be sold. Not sure yet.

I’m not gonna get into everything that was wrong with it because this would be a giant essay. Fingers crossed it’s good to finally be played.

Btw this black bridge with the mutes is gorgeous and has to be one of the best bass bridges ever made!

I had this issue with my first 4H. Loud hum in the only position (equivalent to 1 on yours). I just sent it back.

I remember you mentioning this "curse" before. I am glad it's back. Too bad that you're going through this, this is one of my favourite models.

I do have one question. How is it that a passive bass even needs a preamp? It's it just hooked up with a couple of pots and some wire like any P or J? I can't see the inside of this thing so I am not sure what is going on.

its PCB on the coil selector. everything connects to the pcb. not a typical setup like a P or J

Thanks for the response.

I'm starting to think a return is in my future as well. I've tried different amps, different cables and still get the issue. For the price of it, I'm not happy that 60% of the settings are unusable. I'm in Australia, so I've just reached out to the distributor with the video.

I have the same opinion of the HH models.

I can recommend uploading your video to YouTube in future. I do videos when I sell a guitar nowadays to give potential buyers more peace of mind. You can set them as private/accessible by link only.

I had the same problem with my 2023 when I first got it. If you do a tap test with a screw driver on each coil, in each position, do you have a volume drop in the outer coil of the neck pickup? My guess is the outer coil has a manufacturing problem with some of the pickups.

I emailed EBMM and sent a video. They had me send my pickup to them and sent me a new one. They said it would not void warranty to change it myself or have a tech do it.

If you search my history you will probably find the video I posted in this thread before.
