My Amethyst Sparkle 5H Custom wears flats and it’s the one I use for old school Motown , 70’s Soul , as well as Disco . The rosewood/ flats/ and playing technique all make a big difference.
Sounds very different from my maple / rounds StingRays.

Very cool. Hard case is a great add. I thought I'd like the Mono cases but I'm not really a fan.
I already have a Mono Veritgo Ultra, and it’s great! But I was very relieved that it came with a hard shell, there’s just more peace of mind.
I have a vertigo guitar case, I like that one. The ones that come with the Ray aren't padded like that. They just have a hollow mold instead.

It’s everything that I’d hoped, and sounds epic through the GK Legacy. Glad I got the HH, because it is so versatile and learning the different tones/configurations made my night!

I don’t mind the Mono case. It works for me. I would have preferred the hard case but I can always throw the bass into one of my Mono Vertigo’s if needed.
That’s terrible. Musicman produced a bass with bad electronics and Sweetwater missed it in the inspection. Par for the course

This might be heresy, but I'm considering a pickup/preamp swap on my 5H special. To my ears, the pickup/pre lack *something* in clarity/top end air. It seems high-mid and kind of brash to me, but it plays like an absolute dream. Has anyone else done this and been happy with the results? I'm even considering adding a jazz neck pickup. (Please save the comments on modding an expensive instrument - they're not that expensive, and I understand the impact on resale what I'm considering will have)
Sounds like you'd prefer a Sandberg TM4 California instead of a Ray.

That's probably right on point, but I *have* the SR5. And I really like the way it plays.
If this was me, I would just sell or swap instead of modding and killing resale. Very few complain about Sandberg playability so the risk there is low.
What about trying a string type change? What strings are you using on it now?

I'm a full-time performing and session player. Various monitoring setups, from IEMs to Aguilar DB751 and GR 410. Yes, my SR5 is the special.
Nice to know so under those circumstances if not satisfied with pre or pickup a change may help
I have read a few places Neo pickups to some lack the air/openess of Alnico
Mainly from Dingwall owners who swap Alnico for Neo that was srandard
Can always drop in an SD humbucker instead. I played a 2017 Stingray with one of those at the store earlier today. Sounded good.
