EBMM StingRay Special Club

Fun. Just good fun.
I understand why my wife likes flats so much. Between TIJF, EB Cobalts, GHS Pressurewounds and Chromes, the bridge cables that are D’Addario Chromes are BY FAR my favorite on her 2000 SR5 but I’m really not a fan. They are very smooth and still retain a ton of brightness/clarity on the top end. B string sounds weird and warbly above the 5th fret but sounds just fine 4th and down. I already miss the Super Slinkys.
The BFR continues to astound me. Full band rehearsal last night and it’s just fits and sits in every single song. That buzzy grindiness of round wounds on a fretless board just fill my soul with such joy. Effortless. It’s EFFORTLESS to play. For the most part I was just switching between parallel and series to get either a more midrangey clear tone or more full and thicker tone respectively.
Drummer kept givin me the “oooh dang that sounds so good” look all night. New 2nd guitar player looked my way a few times mid song, looked at my bass and smiled. I tend to do the same thing.

I remember seeing one of the fretted versions have a super strong quilted look to it on Sweetwater at the time I purchased my fretless. Such a cool exclusive finish. We’re in QUITE the small club.

Hello folks. What strap locks have you installed in the Stingray Special 5 or 4 and did you have to drill or could install them without any bass modifications?
I use Loxx with the long screws. The screws are slightly larger in diameter; however, no modification is needed. Harder to find than the popular brands, but they are simpler to operate, more secure and fit closer to the bass body. YMMV.
So I used to own a short scale TC active model as well as a Starry Night shorty, but even though I was primarily playing short scales at the time, the Stingrays felt especially small (im also 6'2"). That said, i am waiting for the right HH model, hoping for a slugger 5HH, or a 35th anniversary.I’m glad to see that @Todd Hamby and myself are not the only ones with a SPECIAL

I have owned both of those Short Scales myself . Still own the active TC .
Are you in the US? I’ll keep a watch for one of those HH models you mentioned.
I am, just north of Seattle. Please do let me know if either of those pop up. The latest blue BFRs just aren't doing it for me. At least not most of the 5 strings I've seen, but just saw a 4 string version that has me drooling.
There is a Slugger 5 HH on EBay from Japan. It’s priced high but maybe they will consider a good offer. GC has a used Slugger 4HH. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
Bass Central has a used 35th Anniversary but it’s the 5H .

I have the EB strap locks on a ‘97 SR 4 H and really like them compared to the Dunlop. The only special we have belongs to the “special” lady of the house and she didn’t want locks, so not sure about the screw fit with the newer models. I just used the original screws and it worked fine on the older SR.

Do you happen to know what, if anything besides the finish, inlays and guard, is different about the Slugger?
Pretty much, that, the royal ebony knobs and the flame maple neck with the black block inlays.
