Looks awesome! Definitely gives me Halloween vibes, and I mean that in the best way possible.
Any of you all go for the gold hardware ones? That ocean turquoise is unreal but I can’t help but question if I’d embrace the gold hardware in the long run. If I was touring it would be a no brainer though.
All 4 of mine have gold hardware. I’m not a touring artist but it wouldn’t stop me either way.
Yeah I just said that because on stage those basses will look amazing - the sparkle purple and the ocean turquoise ones will really stand out. I think my favorite looking Special is the red one with the white pickup. But I have been shopping around for a good price and others have popped up, like the gold hardware ones. I'm just on the fence about those I guess. Also the Blue one with the black hardware is rather interesting. I don't know, I may be just into the standard silver colored hardware, but I like that EB is making these bold looking basses. Sparkle paint jobs are awesome, imo.

Just can’t put down my BFR fretless. It’s just such a joy to play. I never thought I’d be able to navigate a blank fingerboard as well as I’ve learned over the last 6 months. It’s not that I find it “easy”, but rather it’s easy to pay attention to the notes and fairly quickly hear how far out sharp or flat I am and adjust accordingly. I still stare quite a lot but I’ve been forcing myself to play in lower light situations and focusing on muscle memory and hearing.
Learning a bunch of tunes via the Moises app and have been discovering how many songs aren’t quite in tune. Could be analog/digital conversion stuff, but I can’t simply rely on the side dots. I really have to listen.
Plus. Man. That EQ is something else. Running basically flat on my amp at home but a tiny bump at 1800 KHz ish and a tiny cut at 5K ish. Thumpier tone sounds incredible in series with the mids on the BFR cut all the way with bass boosted just past detent and treble cut just past detent. Parallel with mids boosted a bit more than detent with bass at detent and treble boosted a bit sounds absolutely incredible and cuts like a surgeon with a chainsaw. Low action about as low as it’ll go and the board nearly completely flat with higher tension Elixir stainless steels and it’s just magic.

Ordered a set of Chromes for my wife’s ‘00 Stingray. Didn’t even tell her. She’ll be pleasantly surprised next weekend when she busts it out when we choose our songs for church. I am not a big fan of flats however, there’s a set of chromes on her old Fender Blacktop P that’s have been on for nearly a decade and they’re perfect. Just perfect so we’ll see how the old Stingray likes them. Cobalt flats sounded weird. As did TIJF’s. Never tried LaBella’s or DR or Dunlop. Had a set of chromes for my old Pedulla Pentabuzz and I liked them a lot on that bass but I missed the growly mwah. She’s like a deep not aggressive tone. She always turns the treble all the way off on her bass and complains that the Super Slinkys that I LOVE on that bass are “too rough on my delicate lady fingers” lol.
Have y’all seen the price of some flats lately?

I’d be so curious to know the EQ points of the different eras of Stingrays. The ‘00’s and current Specials are fairly drastic.

Out of those with Special my guess would be 40-500-4K

Agreed. It’s REAL easy to make my old Stingray sound bad. But the new one sounds great no matter what. The Specials (from my experience with mine and my friends and videos on YouTube) the overall tone is MUCH more focused than older models. More polite in the top end and not so harsh, less bite in the upper mids, and not as scooped in the lower mids. Maybe the Q is much wider in the Special preamp and the older ones are more narrow.

Also have read/heard from Dingwall and others: Neo pickups are more flat in response in upper mids and highs as compared to Alnico which are slightly peaked

I continue to be impressed with the setup these things take. If you want low low action the fretwork and necks are so good it can take it with ease.
I usually go for like .012” neck relief and was surprised to find out factory spec is like .004”. They’re meant to be flaaaaat
I’m struggling to find a set of strings I’m happy with on my Special 5H. Specifically what is causing all my hangups is that my cover band is playing the song Virtual Insanity, and there is a lot of sliding around on the neck in that bass line. With roundwound strings, this bass really seems to amplify the scratchy finger slides, but otherwise the tone is great. With flats, the scratchy finger slide noise is minimal, but the tone is lacking depth. I’ve tried the following:
