Stingray special owners who own a particularly light version (around 8lbs even), who does it balance? I’m considering a light one but really find neck dive both annoying and uncomfortable on the shoulder. My experience with Fender Shaped Objects is that 8lbs is about the lightest I can go without neck dive issues. I’ve even seen the new Stingray Specials in the low 7lbs range. Gotta believe neck dive issues an issue there. Anyone with experience with these lighter ones?

Decisions, decisions. I wouldn't stress about It too much. Obviously you like both the maple and ebony.. If I was going custom build, Im going with what I know I like everything about. No room for taking chances.

At the end of the day sometimes money talks and I've got an absolutely stunning bass on the way. If I'm not in love when I get it then I'll go for the lavender sparkle.

Absolutely right. Be interesting to see the striped ebony fretboard as well.

Quitting my job soon and taking my daughter and wife away for some travelling so the extra $700 will come in handy. If I don't love it then lavender sparkle it is.

Gorgeous! That's a really pretty burst.

I wondered to myself how a Black Ice, a Black Pearl, or a Blue Abalone pickguard would look on it. But, with the striped ebony fretboard, I concluded they might be too much. It's beautiful as it is.

Nice thing about pickguards is that they’re among the cheaper and easier things to swap out! Usually I don’t like plain black pickguards that much (fingerprints, anyone?), but I agree in this case… plain black suits the bass pretty well. Especially with the black hardware.

Shame they don’t make matching headstocks for the Purple Sunset finish…

Unfortunately, the Classic has to go. It's true that I got it very recently, but its weight was the deciding factor in finally buying the 1989 original that I've been eyeing for a long time.
The special I played at Live Red Rain was not mine, but a friend's. Interesting, but from the same guy I sold the Classic to. If that was mine, I'd probably keep it because it's the best five-string bass I've ever played.

This bass sounds amazing !! This honestly just made me realize how the difference between ebony bs rosewood and maple can be great for long sustaining notes on ballads and slow jams. Thanks !!! Now I’m considering another Ebony board .

I play only Elixir Coated for last 3-4 years. They just last so much longer then others, even if the sound is not my first choice, but it's not to far away.
For flats I used to use Thomastik Infeld, but in the past year or so I changed them also in favour to try something different.
