Yeah, I think it must be the basswood body that makes them light. But light they are, which is an added bonus.

Don't forget that a Sterling has a smaller nut, like jazz width.

Personally, I don't like the sound of ceramic pickups - I feel they sound too harsh for my liking. But they are great if you are a big slapper. I'm finger dub only so the Stingray was a MUCH better fit for me and I prefer the depth of the alnico magnets.

Thanks for the warning on the strong spacing. I have not yet played enough of these to yet have a preference there. I will likely go 5 string, which may be narrower still.

I wonder if it might be the ceramic pickup added zing that is making me like the Sub Ray5 so much. Maybe my opinion would change if I was playing in a band (which I hope to do some day), rather than solo at home.

Stingray, Sub Ray... you can't complain either way.
