Eden WT400 repair/mod

What Eden WT do you rock?

It could be a variety of things. One of which could be a poor soldier joint on the preamp dropping resisters. If you're comfortable with opening up an amp you can simply take a look inside for signs of heat. While you're in there make sure all the connectors are seated properly. That's all you can do without having a better understanding of electronics and some tools to troubleshoot the issue.

:D I'm really good at taking things apart!

I have an engineer friend that said it would be no problem to do the 1st repair. I'll do what you suggested.

There is a fan on the right side of the amp that draws air from the left side, over the heatsink for the power amp, and through the rest of the chassis to the right side and out. The new heatsink sits right behind the fan, you can even see the stainless mounting screw if you look closely through the fan blades around the 4 O'clock position. View attachment 4056115

I wanted the resistors to be up on a heatsink so they are more inline with the air flow, the heatsink has airflow under it so the heat is isolated from the chassis. I didnt want to make a hot spot on the chassis in case I needed to move it or it may discolor the anodized finish.

As far as the tube, where else would you put it? It's pretty common to have a preamp tube inside the chassis.

Hello AudioTaper & bass friends.
I disconnected the fan of my WT300 to separate the top part from the main part of the amp.
And now... i'm not that confident about the good way to connect it again. didn't take a picture and regret it. real newbie...

Could you if possible show me how the fan is connected to the board and power part please ?
It would really help me. Thanks a lot for your help.

I purchased an Eden amp that has Traveler 400 on the front panel and WT 300 on the back. A label on the bottom. Can anyone tell me what this could mean? Thank you so much

Yes I can, as I had one just like it. It was mid-nineties I believe, and it started out as a WT300. David Nordschow then offered the option of an upgrade to the new 400w power section. It wasn’t a huge difference, but he also threw in an upgraded DI, fan and a couple other goodies. I gigged that amp for many years and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I replaced the factory Eden-stamped Ruby 12AX7 for a JJ ECC83S. I really can't tell a difference. Maybe I need to crank it up more. View attachment 4056131

I think I read somewhere that the preamp in this is not really a tube preamp- but rather that the tube is a gimmick but symbolically used in the impedance section... just so that it is used... can anyone confirm this? If true the tube would not affect the sound much if at all...

Thank you so much. After digging online, I was able to see it was the 400 by way of the bypass switch on the enhancer pot.

How much would you say is a good price for one?

The tube acts as a buffer between the input and the first opamp section; the impact on sound is subtle, but I did notice slight differences swapping tubes. It doesn't provide any tube overdrive, however.

Sorry, I just saw this. I guess I missed the notification. The WT300 may have a different fan connector than the 400. Do you have a photo of what you are working with?

Nice. As mentioned, it was an optional upgrade. You can see the differences in the hardware from the photos I posted (pan head vs flat head) There were some WT600 that were upgraded to WT800 , I believe someone commented on This thread saying they had one.

Ah, that’s right, I forgot that part. I recall discussions that some owners bought the upgrade just for that, as there were some mixed feelings about the compressor. I also recall a conversation with David where he mentioned that the upgrade included some enhancement of RF resistance in the front end - sorry to be vague, I’m not a tech.
