Cameron -
I remember your posts and you are correct in how they treated you from my vantage point. This is really souring me BIG TIME.
They did really put the boots to me, and of course 60 me-too dweebs online started backing their ********. That's why I left that forum - the 'good news only' forum. Seems I was just one of the first to encounter their new-found arrogance; the first in a now-very-long line...
And I was totally right about the 1205. LB initially claimed the gain was perfect!
As I've said from day one (I was one of the first to get it - determined this within the first hour of receiving it) the 1205 needs:
1) More gain still (4th attempt).
2) A global stereo effects loop - keep the pre-loops separate for compressors, etc., but include at least one global loop for effects. They suggested I plug my effects rack INTO THE FRONT END OF THE AMP! HA-HA-HA-HA!! 'Never compromise!' Unbelievable.
3) Drop the 'dynamic' bass and treble boosts (have you heard those things? Gawd awful!) and return THAT lost gain to the preamp section (all 30 db of it - that's what's REALLY wrong with that amp).
4) A power-down sequence that doesn't sound like a nuclear warhead just went off (mine went KA-****ING-BLAMMMMM!!!!!) All 1200 watts at about 50-60 hz. The first time I shut it down, my dog lept from the room (via the ceiling) and almost had a heart attack, and she has been around bass gear her whole life (she sits in at rehearsals, recording sessions, gigs - loves music). I've heard amps with little start up bumps - this was about 100 db louder than that.
5) Two detection circuits for the compressor (when you trip the compressor in channel one, channel two lights up). How much would that cost to fix?
6) Access doors for the tubes so you don't have to take out 60,000,000 chassis screws to try a new tube (800's need this, too).
7) New flush rack ears that don't sit the amp 1" behind every other piece of rack gear ever made (800's too).
8) Better looks - I HATE that new font.
I predict if the company doesn't fold from the snowballing effect all this negative publicity is having (they have brought this on themselves), perhaps they will some day get back to being a reliable bass amp company again like they once were. The 800B is a great, world-class amp, as are SOME of their cabinets; but lately, they've even buggered that up. How many touring companies are going to keep buying their stuff with a 4-6 month wait for service for their brand-new-faulty gear? With their current top-down arrogance and blissful, I-don't-really-care-cause-the-US-music-buyout-has-made-me-a-very-rich-man-so-go-****-yourself service policy, somehow, I doubt it. They've probably got terminal Trace-Elliotitis, unfortunately. Caught it from sipping tainted champagne at trade shows with Gibson execs.
It's too bad, but these may be the beginning death-throes of a once-very-fine company. I certainly hope not.
Thanks for the back-up, Bro;
