How would a Tech 21 VT Bass sound in front of this?
I miss my old WT400, but would rather go the old separate pre/power amp route.

I think it's rather an alternative to Tech 21 VT Bass with different flavor of sound. Eden WTDI is only a preamp and tone shaping tool. To use both in the same chain is overkill IMO.

Well I'm mostly just wanting a nice box to record through. My Bass Cube actually sounds pretty good, but a tad too noisy, so I figured I'd give the WTDI a try. My amp also has a pad on the input, so it may not be an issue for me if the WTDI is sending out a hot signal. Fingers crossed!

Let us know how it compares to your EBS and Sansamp VT (and how it works with your Peavey Cirrus--I play a USA Millennium). Despite Bongomania's slam of it, I keep coming back to my Digitech Dual-Band Bass Squeeze.....

hey folks this unit doesnt like to push a lot of gain but as a clean pre it shines

i roll OFF the bass to below 9 o'clock but push the bass boost. cleans up nice

i also push the mids a bit, run the compressor at about 2 o'clock and keep enhance under 9o'clock or off altogether

Actually it has a lot of gain just no distortion.

I have a powered cab that needs a balanced yet powerful (instrument level, not mic level) signal.
Can anyone comment on the XLR signal?
Pre-Post EQ?
XLR Output level can be adjusted with the gain/vol knobs?

XLR is Post EQ signal, output level can be adjusted with gain/vol knobs.
It's quite good idea to have a chain like WTDI -> Power amp -> Cab, I am looking for a light portable power amp around 200 W to build such a chain myself.

I still impressed with how quiet the WTDI is. The EQ is sensitive and it has plenty of clean gain. It's not the pedal for distorted pick-style playing, but then I've only found that kind of thing useful about .001 % of the time.

I got mine from Eden. I sent the request awhile ago and it wasn't until about 2 weeks ago that they replied "Are you still intereted in reviewing the WTDI?" Heck yes! ....but all that makes me wonder if Eden was waiting on a shipment themselves. Good Luck!

The XLR is balanced. I plan on recording some clips with the DI in the next few days.

Sure XLR is balanced. But is it mic level or +4 signal level!?!?!

I don't know about signal level but I plugged it into XLR input on PA console without problems, the same input where they normally plug microphones. I think it's the same as any bass amp with XLR output. And there is also regular unbalanced output so it can be plugged almost anywhere.
