Effect Junkies - Post your rig!!

How do you like the Mesa 400+? I mean, can you make it sound super clean for your effects and then have that awesome tube overdrive? :]

Just to clarify it's a 400 not a 400+. I really like it and it works very well with effects but the preamp isn't voiced to my liking so I'm experimenting with alternatives. I'm going to retube it with KT88's and different preamp tubes soon to see if that get's me closer to what I'm looking for.

here she is. 1001RB II, 210 XST, GS212

This is a rig that will actually be complete this weekend. For the times when I have the room, and the determination to go all out. SKB PS45 board- stereo out, Left to Mesa Walkabout/Epifani UL212, Right to Ampeg SVT 6Pro/Mesa Deisel 215. The 215 is the missing link, but I pick it up Saturday, and I'll run this whole set up later the same day. Normally, it'll be one rig or the other, but the bigger one mostly. I'll take a pic of the whole thing this weekend.

I didn't know so many effects users hated Ampeg. I can see why people would dislike them just cause of the fact that "everyone" has one or says it's the best but have all the people here saying they hate Ampeg actually played one? Ampeg makes well built and nice sounding amps. By no means am I saying that they are the best and only amp you should use but I don't think they deserve the bashing they get. :rollno:

Hey, I have two ampegs ... the svt 3Pro and the SVT 4 PRO... I really like them both. In fact, I'm going to use them to bi-amp as soon I can decide what bottom I want to put with the 3.

BTW, I thought this was a thread about effects? That's why I came in here, anyway.

I was looking for ideas as to what to put in my rack. I have one mono rack mount multi FX but I'm basically just using it for reverb/chorus/flange. I'm replacing it with a stereo version for the bi-amping.

There's also a compressor in my rack. Hey, I like it. I know many don't respect compressors. It gives me the sound I want. I don't have it set to massive 'squish' - just enough 'mash' to give it a nice tight ceiling and blend the tones.

Anybody using any kind of rack mount distortion? Maybe a pre-amp set to overdrive? I'm thinking of doing that to the set up for the 3 pro since I'm going to use it for the high end.

How about a maximizer or an aural exciter?

SWR makes a great rackmount OD. Look up the interstellar od (not the death by audio one, that's a clone in pedal version). There's another thread floating around from a while back that's more of what your were thinking. I think it was called "Show me your rack" or something along those lines.

Wow, how about this? A "post your rig" thread has turned into an "I hate Ampeg" thread. Welp, I've talked to Ampeg and he says he couldn't give a crap.

I guess some people are tired of the the whole "it's Ampeg, it must poop fairy dust and sound like honey from golden bees" speech that ampeg lovers and every kid at the local GC spews out. They are great amps for what they do, but some people do not like the "golden bee honey" sound. They prefer the "goat piss and motor oil" sound, or the "angels singing through clouds" sound. It just seems like to me that most of the guys who run a ton of effects like the GK sound. Or the Mesa 400 sound. Or the aguilar sound. They don't want the ampeg sound. But God forbid if we mess with tradition.:spit:

perhaps i shall have to take a picture of my rig this weekend, as, after going through my picture records... i have NONE of my board and rig... sad.
people always watch me bring my rig into gigs and think it's another instrument until open it up.
then they act even MORE shocked when they find out i'm the bassist (little do they know i have at least 4 to 5 more pedals that i have with me NOT on the board... and i'm still not happy with it... too much boss equip. not enough 'interesting' pedals... mostly because i can't afford them yet... BUT SOME DAY!)

It looks as though by "Effect Junkies - Post your rig!!" you meant "Post you bass area!!", I can do that. (and if you didn't, you do now!)

Personally, I don't hate Ampeg, just the stereotypical Ampeg user. You know, the one who tells you that they have an Ampeg and sits back and waits for you to drool over that fact- Like they just won the rig contest that only they, and other Ampeg users know about.

ESPECIALLY the crap that comes out of their mouths when I tell them I have a Carvin. Like I despise tone or something....

And yes, this reflects poorly on Ampeg. It seems to be what the "gear makes the player" crowd buys.

*If you have an Ampeg and don't fit the above, I hope you have the self-esteem to not point it out to me.*

I don't. 64 and 77 B-15N's and a first-run 69 SVT. HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

But seriously, I'll be the first to say that it doesn't matter in the least what anyone plays. If you can lay down some good bass, I'm all ears no matter what your rig. Even Carvin, which is actually pretty doggone good stuff.

Please note that I said nothing damning toward Ampeg until someone told me, in a confrontational tone mind you, that I was doing something WRONG by actually using my own gear, that I happen to love, instead of the solid state Ampeg rig that graced the particular stage my person stood upon. Especially since the other three bassists who did use that rig that evening couldn't get a good tone no matter how much between song tweaking they embarked upon.

I don't like Ampegs, and I've played through a bunch of them. I stated my opinion about an overall brand only when prompted, I didn't trash someone else's rig. Others feel differently about The Big A. Good for them. Good for me that other gear exists out there.

EDIT: Why am justifying my irrational hatred of a stupid brand? To anyone who hates my Ampeg-hating, take comfort in the fact that my penis is smaller than yours, and we can move on.
