Double Bass Effect of cold on amplifiers

Like I said before, I think it's much better to wait first before you open the bag. The warmer the gear is before you open it up, the less condensation. If time is short, however, maybe there is an argument for unpacking sooner and waiting as long as possible before powering up. Then the gear would warm up faster than if it was in its case, and hopefully the condensation would have dried up. Still, I think it's best to avoid condensation in the first place and wait as long as possible before unpacking. Even if the circuit boards are dry when you power up, having had water on them at all seems undesirable.
Also, never immediately unpack a frozen instrument, unless it's made of aluminum or plastic:)
See? I'm trying to use more Smileys:)

Yes, you're quite right in principle, except for the reality that you cite. The bag would tend to insulate and often there isn't time to wait around. By opening the bag, you risk accumulating a very small amount of moisture on the PC boards but that moisture will evaporate very quickly unless you're gigging in a sauna. So, in short order, you'd bring the equipment to room temperature and have evaporated whatever formed. Again, I think this all making a mountain out of a molehill.

Nice to see you smiling. :)

I've mostly lived in urban environments where leaving gear in the car unattended was not an option, so I must admit that I have little personal experience with this issue. However, I have had the experience of an amp acting up at a time when when my reputation was on the line, like offering to be the amplified bass for a pops concert. So, this is the kind of thing for which I will personally get a bit obsessive about. That said, the temperature in Cologne has rarely dropped below freezing in the last three years, so I don't expect to have to get out the plastic bags this winter. I just hope I can take my kids skiing at least once. Global Warming is sad:(
