I think there are far, far worse cases or failure to produce to be found on TalkBass.

Kudos to Devi for owning up and being honest about mistakes made and seeming to make a genuine interest in correcting the wrongs. Owing $20K to backers seems like a steep hill to climb if you have to pay out of your own pocket, and your pockets don't apparently already contain said monies.

Crazy stuff.

It's hard not to wonder if the mismanagement bought a vagina... I'm not trying to start a rumor but it's not a big leap of imagination to go from a failed attempt to raise money for a vaginaplasty (how does one spell vaginaplasti?) to a mismanagement of a bank roll the same size... true or not, that is where the the speculation is going to land.

There was another fund raiser looking for $36,000. It's not difficult to make the leap.

Devi has made no secret of her surgeries and the monies spent on them...speculation as to where the kick-start funds may have (not 'did', but 'may have') gone is bound to arise with some people, especially given her comments on mismanagement of those funds. Personally, I doubt (or maybe 'hope' is a better choice here) that she spent the funds on surgery...I'd like to think that she has more integrity than that.

Last update in August: "Almost done, getting ready to go into production!"
Current: "Ooops"
If that much of the budget ($20K) plus whatever was in reserve from the core business, was blown over 4 months where the project needed to be cancelled and they needed to get out of the FX business altogether, then that is some serious mismanagement.

No intended attack on her character... just pointing out the obvious suspicion that follows the announcement... I, for one, am not invested in it, so it doesn't matter to me... if it were true, I guess I would rather it went to a surgery than to a drug habit or an over-indulgent vacation.

The console was a rad idea though.

i never really thought this was going to get off the ground. nothing against her, but she doesn't have the best track record.

she sounds burnt and i wish her the best. she's got a lot of difficult to deal with stuff in her life and i hope she stays healthy and gets everything sorted.

REALLY hope she can pay people back though.

She could probably make a lot of the people who contributed happy just by giving them pedals if she doesn't have the money. That's probably what they'd spend their money on anyway; more pedals. I would be OK with that if I had contributed. It sucks that this thing didn't work out. I would have bought one.

I don't think people are saying anything directly because of orientation or gender association, but certain aspects that relate can't be ignored just because they relate.
